I'm debating whether or not to book our flight now for our end of August trip or to wait to see if I can get a better deal. I checked today and the best rate I found from Detroit-Orlando was through Spirit at $200 round trip (that's after all taxes, etc.) Do you think I should book now or hold out? I don't fly often so I'm not sure what kind of deals may come out later in the summer. Any advice???

That's about what my mom usually pays to fly out of Detroit. She just booked for November, and paid around $262 per ticket. Fares were a little higher the week she's flying back because it's the week of Thanksgiving.

I don't think 200 is bad for dtw. We've paid up to 250 and as little as 100 (with sw ding). I just snagged 199 for 11/24 - 12/2 on airtran the other day (it's now 358) It will be our first time trying them.

I am paying 125 with taxes for our July trip. They really have increased their prices lately. I think that the cheapest we will see is 69 each way. I paid 59 each way and that includes leaving on a Saturday, which usually costs more.

If it were me, I'd hold out. We've flown in September the past 2 years and paid $134 last year and $160 the prior year, both on Northwest. We're also going this year, 9/27-10/5, and got the AirTran deal through CRO for $129 r/t flying out of Flint. If you're staying onsite, you might want to see if you can get the AirTran special; we just booked it last week.

I too have flown NW and it was cheap (Dec. 108 round trip). From what I have found, I thought that only NW and Spirit fly nonstop from DTW to MCO. Does AirTran do this as well? For my family it is worth it to pay more to fly nonstop.

Yes, AirTran flies non-stop from DTW and from Flint to MCO... I think they usually only have one n/s flight per day, but the times were great for us. We leave Flint at 7:00am and arrive around 9:15am in MCO.. on the way home, we leave MCO at 7:00pm and get home around 9:30pm. I think the direct flights between DTW-MCO are afternoon times.

We live equal distance between DTW and Flint, so either one will work for us.

Wow good price! did you get this online? and are you flying out of dtw or flint? I've been watching (we are traveling 11/27-12/4) and it's been around $300. I would LOVE $199!!!

UPDATE : I bought our tickets today.

Well, I decided to check again today and Spirit was down a little so I decided to go ahead and book. If I held off I might have been able to save a little more if I waited, but I figured at least now I got the flight times that I was hoping for. I ended up paying $768 total for 4 round trip tickets, leaving Saturday and returning Friday night. I'm happy with that price. Now I just have to stop myself from checking out the website everyday and torturing myself with how much I might have saved if only I had waited! :rotfl:
Thanks to everyone for the advice.

Thats pretty good...We are flying out of Toledo this time and since we get free tix from NW we are pretty limited on flight times. We found a decent flight and the 2 tix we had to buy (only had enough points for 3 tix this year) we paid $248 rt for each ticket .That is from Toledo to CIncy to MCO. SO I would say that $200 for a direct flight is definitely a deal.

Thats a pretty good deal. I've never been fortunate enough to get my airfare (on any airline!) under about $180 with taxes and fees roundtrip. My best snag was for a trip to Hilton Head Island, where I picked up a roundtrip from Flint on NW for $112 with taxes!! 5 flew for $560!! Then, I got a Minivan with National for $107 with taxes for the week!! What a cheap vacation that was

I booked right when the fares were released. They were listed as 89 each way but I booked through group travel and got another $10 off. We're flying from DTW, it was 114 for FNT. If you can try moving your dates around. Flying on 11/28 and 12/4-5 you can get 89 each way-Airtran.com.
