I'm going to a conference in San Diego in mid November and will be arriving at the airport around 3 PM on a Sunday afternoon. Would it be at all possible to pick up my rental car and drive 90 miles to Disneyland, spend about 5 hours at Disneyland park (it closes at midnight that night), and then drive back to my hotel in downtown San Diego? This will be my only shot to go to Disneyland on the trip and I don't foresee myself getting to the west coast any time soon. I've heard horror stories about trying to drive on I-5 due to the amount of traffic. Will it really be that bad on a Sunday afternoon/evening? Unless I can spend at least 4-5 hours in the park, I don't think it will be worth it to me. Please let me know if you think I could pull this off or if I should just relax in my hotel room instead. :woohoo:

Sunday afternoons coming north on the I-5 can be a nightmare. You have all this traffic from Mexico coming up from San Diego.

Can you change your plane ticket to fly into Orange County, rent a car there and then fly out of San Diego? That would make a lot more sense to me.

I actually haven't booked the flight yet, so I could give that a shot. Will the traffic be bad if I leave Disneyland between 10 and 11 PM and head to San Diego then?

I really dont think that traffic that time of night will be bad. I dont think there will be traffic at all. I agree with Tocherie that you should change your flight to OC. THat way you can get your car and make a quick drive right to DL. You can do it, we have faith!!!:wizard:

Awesome, I'll definitely consider trying this! Thanks for all the advice!

Agree with CorpseBride-unless there's construction or an accident, the traffic going south to San Diego that time of night should not be bad.

Or what about flying in Saturday instead and then having all day Sunday at DL?

Or just flying in to SNA earlier on Sun so you have more time at DL and don't have to pay for a hotel. The good thing about flying west is gaining a hour or two, depending on where you are coming from :)
