Would you book a last minute 2 night stay at HH where you'd drive 9-10 hours to/from for a Sat and Sun night in a 1BR for you family of 5? It's a month away. Would love a weekend at HH, but it's a long drive. We likely will leave Friday night and get as close as we can and stay in a hotel so that we can get there early on Sat for a full day. Then a full day Sun and drive all the way home Monday (kids will miss school that Mon).

I personally would not mostly because DH will not drive any further then 4 hours or we are flying! Just remember check in is at 4:00Pm so even if you show up early no guarantee you get into you room until after 4 and check out is 11AM so you will drive 9 hours for 1 1/2 days at the most. Good luck in your decision.

We can get there at 11am and check in, but just won't have a room ready until 4 or so. We can use the pool or beach though. So, we'd have to arrive in our swimsuits and such. I still don't know if it's worth it, but sounds like a fun road trip.

Things I would do..

I'd fly for 2 days.. ( fly in frid, fly home sund.. spending (rounding up) 8 total hours traveling with time to the airport/check in ect) ( I did it for 3 days before.) The extra 10 hours would be worth the costs. You'd spend 50% of your time traveling.. Please with gas/wear and tear on the car, it would be worth it to me to fly.

Option I would do.. I'd go somewhere closer with a 2-4 hour drive..

FLAME ME.. I'd pull the kids out of school for an extra 2 days, and drive that long for 4 days.. :beach:

I would not drive nearly 20 hours (10 there and 10 back) over a period of a few days, to play for 20 hours (10 sat and 10 sun) that is too much work. :crazy2:

Bolded is what DH is pushing for...he'd rather save our points anyway...just those 2 nights are like 71 points.

i love short trips and I live exactly 10 hours from WDW! I'm often torn about how long I should stay to make it worth gas, wear/tear on car etc. I'm thinking a minimum of six days for me and would never consider the drive for only 2 days! I think if I was in your situation I would rent my points and find somewhere closer to home to visit!

Personally, I'd rent the points, bank them if possible or fly. That kind of a drive is exhausting for just 2 days. But, that's just OHO.

Good luck with your decision :)

I say that if you haven't done one of these 10-hour and back drives in the last year then go ahead and do it. My DH and I drive to WDW (from Michigan) once per year (January) - it's a 2 day drive each way. Last year, we needed to visit a sick family member just one month later (February). That drive is 10 hours each way - it felt like a nightmare :scared1: What we finally realized is that it isn't enough down time to drive 10 hours each way with only 2 days in between. That said, most of our family is on the east coast and we've been doing these types of drives about 2x per year for 3 years. When we first started doing them, they didn't seem so bad. So if you haven't done one before, it might seem worth it to do it a few more times and then, after the 3rd trip bombing down there you will probably realize that it isn't ;) Good luck with your decision.

NO! It is approx. 10 hours from where we live to HHI but personally I wouldn't drive more than about 4 or 5 hours for a 2-day weekend trip. We drove to HHI a couple of summers ago but went for a full week. We left the DC area (MD suburbs) on a Friday nite trying to get as close to the NC border as we could so the remainder of the drive on Sat. wouldn't be too bad. Even tho we are used to DC traffic THIS was a nightmare. It took us almost 5 hours to get to the Richmond area. Bad, bad, bad idea to try to head south on a Friday nite. Really bad. We'd have been better off to get up at 4:00 AM and head out and drive it in 1 shot. Now we know better if we ever go again.

For me, it's a lot of driving but I don't mind. My wife hates more than 4 hours in the car. You only live once and if your okay with it, just take the girls then. You only live once, so live it well with just enough practicality to make it to tomorrow.

It's 10 hours from here to my Cape May home, and I have done it for 2 nights in Cape May.
Best wishes.

I couldn't do it for just a 2 night stay!! My kids would be so mad too, that we had to leave and drive home for 10 hours!!

We love HHI and usually go every summer. It's a 12 hour drive for us but we stay a whole week.

I really wouldn't fly in either for 2 days - too expensive for just a weekend for my taste. Plus then you wouldn't have all your beach stuff etc.

For weekend trips we usually stay within 2 - 4 hours of home.

If you do go, hope you have a wonderful time and very safe travels!

NO, been there and IMO not worth the trip with that much driving and expense.

We live 6 hours away and would be hard pressed to just stay 2 nights.

May I suggest our favorite time of year...We like to get to Hilton Head on Thanksgiving night and stay through the weekend. Hubby's Mom lives in Atlanta so we have lunch with her on Thanksgiving day.

(Shh...Don't tell anybody I said to go at Thanksgiving.) ;) :goodvibes:

I would. One year my DH called my boss on a Friday and she told me I needed to go home ASAP. We then got in the car with 2 toddlers and drove 13 hours to WDW and drove back on Monday. this was one of our best trips due to being spontaneous. Now, when I tell him he needs to give me a spontaneous trip he says he is too old for it and it is too far to drive. As someone else said once or twice is okay but doing it any more is probably too much.

I'm curious what Sat/Sun night combination is still available this time of year at HHI.:scratchin

It was Sat June 1-Mon June 3 in a 1BR. Not sure if it's still available. We scrapped it :(

Nope, it's gone now. But the 4th and 5th are available.

Booked 3 nights for Food and Wine in October instead (with our points). Can't wait. Really wanted to go somewhere sooner rather than later, but we are pretty busy for the next few months anyway.
