HI- After discussing a possible reservation yesterday with a CM, I am now confused.. I'm thinking about running away for a few days in March. (my use year is April) We were almost finished when she stated that I would need to "borrow" from 2011 to make this reservation and if I cancelled it would go back into 2010, the borrowed year. I'm not positive yet of DH's schedule , so I decided not to book yet. But, I started thinking and doesnt seem right to me. I would think that if I cancelled before 30 days- it would just go back into 2011- not sure why the borrowing needs to be done- except that use year is in April.

Borrowed points once borrowed cannot go back into original use year. In your case making a March 2011 trip and borrowing points coming in April 2011, if you have to cancel they would have to be used for a trip that ends no later than March 31, 2011, the end of your 2010 use year, or be lost. Cancellation more than 30 days out does not change that rule. Cancelling 30 days or less out simply adds the requirement that you cannot book more than 60 days out (even if end of use year is still long away) because points go into a holding account.

It sounds like you have either used or banked all of the points you received on April 1, 2010. If that is the case, yes, you will need to borrow points from the April 1, 2011, use year for a trip in March 2011.

As drusba said, borrowed points do not return to their original use year, but remain in the use into which they were borrowed. (borrowing is a final transaction)

We have a March use year. We were thinking of going to Disney for a few days during our son's winter break - Feb 21st-28th. We decided not to because we would have to borrow points from our March 11 use year, since we banked our extra 2010 points back in October. If we were to borrow the points to make the trip, and then had to cancel, those borrowed points would expire the last day of February. Our use year is just not good for February travel - it is just too risky - we could easily lose the points used for a reservation if we had to cancel. Your situation could be the same as mine - only a different use year/vacation week.
