Two things I am puzzled by today........maybe it is just me?

When I arrived at the gym, another lady was parking next to me. So she went in when I did. She had a small dog (hot dog type, super cute) in the car with her. I was in the gym for a little over an hour( an hour and twnety minutes) , and when I came out, she was still inside the gym, dog still sitting alone in the car barking at everyone that walked by. I felt bad for the little guy! Its cold here, so he wasn't in any heat danger or anything, but he may have been chilly, but dont you think it is mean to leave your dog in the car for OVER an hour while you work out? What if he has to potty? I do not have dogs, so I am not sure if this is usual behaviour, but well, I felt bad for the little guy.

Second oddity, there was a woman at the gym that was VERY pregnant wearing skimpy runners shorts and a sports bra, no shirt. Her whole belly was exposed. Her rear end was also totally exposed. I mean the shorts were covering nothing and she was practically naked! She was walking on the treadmill etc, and good for her for staying healthy and all, but it was sort of shocking to me. Seemed odd to me? Maybve she had a shirt on and just got really hot? I dont know.

Just wondering if you all would think this odd or if I am just nuts?

Leaving a dog in the car for an hour in breezy weather isn't a big deal to me. I'm sure he was fine if the temp was over 32 degrees. If he can't "hold it" for an hour, then I guess his owner will have to deal with it. My dog would rather explode than pee in the car.

But the pregnant woman--bleah. I'm all for pregnant women and exercise, but really, have some decency. She sounds disgusting!

I always thought that it was illegal to leave your dog in a car alone? I could be totally wrong, I just thought I heard that somewhere?

Leaving a dog in the car while you run into 7-11 is fine. I'd NEVER leave a dog in the car while I go to the gym - thats just wrong. Over an hour??? I don't think so.

As far as the preggo woman... I guess she thinks she still looks hot!!

I call animal control when I see animals left alone in cars like that. *shrug*

I agree with this whole post LOL. I take my morkie with me and she stays in the van for a hour at a time with no problems. Just as long as its not hot and not to cold. Its not to cold yet here in Michigan.

The preggie there, put a shirt or a tank top on I say. Love, love a preggie belly, but come on, have some descretion but I do understand if she was hot. When you are expecting, your body temp is really high and it doesn't take much to boil. The butt hanging out, uh uh....wouldn't go for that.

I don't understand why leaving a dog in the car for an hour is wrong? If its not hot or too cold, whats the problem:confused3 I keep my tiny dog in her soft carrier if she is left in the van. She is perfectly fine. Its not like she's gonna drive away or turn the music up to loud:lmao::confused3 I see many of dog waiting in the cars.

Now if it were children, thats another story. I do not do that unless my dd13 is there.

Im just curious...when you call, do they come? Is it hot out or cold? Do the owners get fined for it? Just curious cause I have never heard of that before. Wondering what animal control does. Do they break into the vehicle?

I may be in the minority, but my dog LOVES to go for a ride! I take her virtually everywhere when weather permits.. I don't take her when it is over 80 or under 40 or so as a general rule, especially if I have to leave the car for over an hour, but when I go to the grocery store or on errands..sure! I don't work out so I am not usually gone for more than 45 minutes or so, but she would be so sad if I didn't take her along!

I will say today was a perfect day out, but she went to kennel because we had to meet DH for lunch, look at Christmas trees, go to two different haircut places and a fast stop at the store.. a little over 3 hours and with the greenhouse effect in the car I would have been looking for shade all day. I have heard it is illegal on a state by state basis, but as far as I know, not in Missouri!

Having your tush hanging out is not really excusable, but I don't see what's wrong with a pregnant woman working out in a sports bra. Non pregnant women do it all the time. :confused3

I don't think a pregnant belly automatically has to be covered up. There's nothing obscene about it.

We called the cops once on a person who left their dog in the full sun on a 70+ degree day.

The police did come out, and when they ran the tag they found out the driver had warrants, so they arrested him and took him in. Instant karma is a bear...;)

I wouldn't leave either of my dogs in the car alone...well maybe to run into the gas station, but thats it lol. Not only is it too hot in FL most times, they would literally destroy my car in revenge..god love them!

As for the preggo, being almost 8mos myself I wouldn't have my behind hanging out my shorts (that is nasty to me even with non-preggos lol), but the sports bra wouldn't bother me. The thing I love most this pregnancy is that it is perfectly acceptable now days to wear tank tops and clothes that show OFF your belly versus the circus tents I wore when I was preggo with DD 11.

I'm another one who calls animal control. Particularly if the animal is barking at others. For my own personal moral compass, its' not okay to keep a dog in a car for an extended period of time (longer than a run into the drug store or post office) particularly if that dog doesn't choose to just lie down but barks like a mad dog to get out and get at the world passing by. It's just my own thing.

As for the pregnant lady. If she was within dress code guidelines for the gym then I say she's fine. I personally am uncomfortable when ANYONE doesn't cover up at the gym. I have no desire to watch while your skin sweats and exerts itself. But it's not my body and If I don't like it then I should leave. I'm the one with the issue. Now I have a feeling short-shorts would violate a decency code but that's just me.

I agree, some people just don't care if they are covered these days...disgusting is right.;)

It wasn't hot, and the dog was fine. I leave my pup in his cage overnight, and when we go out. It is about 2 square foot. LOL, the car would be a great time if he wouldn't eat the locks! Anyone who would call the police for such a thing has no life. The dog is not in danger, nor is it a danger to others. As someone says, who karma can get you. You never know when some busybody will stick their nose into your business.

As for the pregnant woman, all the more power to her. If she is comfortable working out that far along, she can be nekkid as far as it would bother me.

While I wouldn't leave my dog in the car just to go to the gym, the thing I like about traveling with my dog in the winter is that we can stop at a restaurant and actually go in while our dog waits in the car. When we travel in the summer we drive through fast food and find a shady park or rest stop. It never occurred to me anyone would call the police in the winter!

As mentioned by a pp, yes, it is illegal in Florida, year round.

I always thought that it was illegal to leave your dog in a car alone? I could be totally wrong, I just thought I heard that somewhere?

Around here it is illegal and punishable with a heavy fine and possible time in jail. There have been too many reports of pets dying from the heat. It can get 30 or 40 degrees hotter in the car than outside, so around here the poor animals bake. :sad1:

1.) To me, leaving a dog alone for the period of time is just cruel. It is not hot here today- I've had on long sleeves the whole day and been fine. However, I was surprised how hot it was in my car when I stepped into it after it had been sitting in the sun for awhile. I'd hate to think how miserable my dogs would have been if I had left them in there. Yeah, dogs love a car ride, but nobody can make me believe that their dog enjoys being cooped up for an extended period of time with no room to stretch their legs while their owners are nowhere to be seen. If you have any of those designer breeds, it is an especially bad idea. I have heard of cases of those dogs being stolen from cars or yards by people looking to make a quick buck. There's just no reason for it. Leave your dogs at home. If they like a car ride, either go for a drive, or go somewhere they are allowed with you.

2.) That would gross me out too. A lot of gyms require that you at least be covered, particularly because your skin will touch a lot of the equipment. That is basic hygiene to me. A lot of people do not bother to clean off the machines when they are done, which is fine if you have a shirt on, but if you're letting it all hang out, that's your sweat all over that machine. It's not necessary. I've never seen a woman in just a sports bra at my gym. I don't know if people just don't bother, or if it's against policy. But I'm glad. I don't care how nice your abs are, cover up! Same goes for the guys!

I'm in the camp that doesn't see a problem with bringing the dog and leaving them in the car as long as it isn't too hot or cold out. To me it's really not that different from them being at home. They can sit and lay down on the car seats. Most of the time when they're indoors at home they're laying around anyway and if you're not there, there's no one home to let them out should they need to "go".

We have a deaf aussie shepherd who absolutely loves car rides and coming along. He doesn't like being left home alone and often times when we do leave him we'll come home to find him lying in the bathtub (why he does that is a mystery to me lol). I guess it might seem cruel to some but I honestly believe that he enjoys (even in a parked car) the scenery and people watching.

The pregnant woman.....yeah she probably should cover it up a little. I know when I was pregnant I didn't want to leave anything hanging out there for the world to see.

To each their own I guess. :)
