Is this an insult or a compliment?

A bunch of guys at my ex-es company are going to be HIM for Halloween!

Depends -- does the costume involve showing plumber's crack, a Budweiser t-shirt with a hairy belly sticking out or other things?? :confused3

Gelled hair, plaid shirt, jeans, boots and a beard....kinda like that guy from that home improvement sitcom

I'd have to say it's a compliment. They like the guy enough to dress up as him - in front of him. :teeth:

I would take it as a compliment, unless it's what Pam said above!

We actually did this one year. There's a quirky guy in our office, but we all love him. He wears what appears to be the EXACT SAME shirt every day! (He actually has a whole bunch of them, and bought them so he doesn't have to figure out what to wear every day.) So we all wore very similar shirts, tucked in, and dark colored pants. Except we didn't tell him we were doing it -- watching him trying to figure out why we were all wearing the same color shirt was pretty funny! He thought it was really funny, and we took a group picture.

His coworkers probably respect your husband as someone who is very good-humored.

Oh - they're going as Al? That's a good thing! :thumbsup2 Tell them not to forget their toolbelts!

Compliments - they must really like DH - so much that they are comfy poking a little fun at him.

No, silly...the poor guy kinda looks like a skinny al.

We did that one year when I worked for a small insurance company. We (about 5 women who handled the claims) all wore suits, died our hair the appropriate color, walked around with a coffee cup in our hands asking, "what are y'all doing?" (which is exactly what this guy did all day long.. :rotfl: ) Insult or compliment? I'm not really sure there was intent of either, just a silly joke that got a lot of laughs...

Definitely a compliment.

If they meant anything as an insult, they would not have told him about it.

:goodvibes

My college class dressed up like our program director.. white short sleeve shirt, tie, dark pants, and horn rim glasses... We adored the man....

He is still a mentor to many.

so my vote is.. compliment!... they think of him fondly!

I agree that it's a compliment. If they thought somthing ill of your DH they certainly would not advertise it in a work setting! (Not if they wanted to keep their jobs, anyway...)

So, what's your DH going as? :)

We had people at the office do that when I was first out of college. One of the older guys there had a very distinct look...he was bald, dark glasses, thick mustache, so about 10 people dressed up like him. At first I was kindof nervous, but he was such a nice guy and thought it was hilarious. I would say its a compliment and all in fun. Maybe your DH should try to dress up like someone else at work too.

That was my dh's style when he used to work for Boeing, especially the beard and plaid shirt.

I would take it as a compliment because it's the natural Pacific Northwest flair. Are the others from other parts of the states? Maybe they just don't understand. lol ..I think a costume based on a caricature of someone is not always necessarily an insult.

Then again I do realize some may be passive aggressive, but really I would take it as good fun. He works in the tech field? Hey, at least they are creative, right? :teeth:

my DF did this with his co-workers with his boss and he says it's both. his boss laughed tho.

they were gonna dress like inmates because they think of it as a prison, but this way they didn't have to buy costumes lol.

Ohhh, good point!!! He grew up here and most of his co-workers are transplants. I never made the connection!!

I was thinking it would be funny for him to get a black platic wig and a big fake black beard and a super plaidy shirt and go as a parody of himself.

Their boss looks JUST like lurch...but has no sense of humor, lol.
