Is this a weird combination?

I have never heard of this combo before and it does sound strange to me. I have a friend from NC who swears that PB and Mayo sandwiches are the bees knees.

Never heard of it. When we make chili we serve it with tortilla chips.

Chili is a meal in itself. All you need is some rice to throw it over and you're done. (Add some sour cream and cheese if you like).

I have never heard of the peanut butter sandwich/chili combo either.

Now that sounds gross - rice in chili?

Red chile (different from Texas chili) is a staple out here. My DH's family eats it with every meal. We had a baked potato pot luck for lunch at work one day last week and the most popular potato topping was a crockpot of red chile. There's always a bowl of red chile next to the gravy on Thanksgiving, too. Many people prefer it on their turkey and mashed potatoes instead of gravy.

the rice binds with the beans and keeps one from getting gas

now if you do beanless chili, then I don't know....

Peanut butter sandwiches with chili...
Rice with chili...
Spaghetti and chili...

I just don't get it.

If we are talking red chili: cheddar cheese on top. Corn bread on the side.

If we are talking black bean pumpkin turkey chili: sliced avocado and a dollup of sour cream on top.

And then there's hot dog chili, which is just ground meat and sauce. On top of a hot dog.

Growing up in Indiana my school served peanut butter sandwiches with a bowl of chili. Today I decided that's what I wanted for dinner and my DH was like . He grew up twenty miles from me and has never heard of such a combination.

Does anyone else eat peanut butter sandwiches with their chili, or does the thought of it make you cringe?

I am also from Indiana and we ate our chili with peanut butter on crackers. My uncle would just dump a whole glob of peanut butter in his chili :rotfl2: We also ate our chili with various different types of pasta. Which most people found weird. Not sure if that is an Indiana thing or not

I have never heard of pb and chili!

I grew up in Nebraska. We always had cinnamon rolls with our chili! In the school cafeteria and at home. I moved away 25 years ago, and I sometimes serve them together, but not always. I have Facebook friends that still live there. They post photos of the chili cinnamon roll combo!

Indiana born and bred, but this is what my school district did.:cool1: The cinnamon rolls were the best! I've only heard of it from my childhood school district. Maybe someone was originally from Nebraska!

Everywhere else is peanut butter and chili. I don't live in my hometown now, but I think they still serve it.

Fellow Hoosier here - PB and chili was a school lunchroom staple for me, too....I think it came with celery sticks? Keep in mind that our chili growing up had elbow macaroni in it.

It seemed that certain foods always came in combination in school lunches back in the day.

Another hooiser here and we also had peanut butter sandwiches with chili and it was always on a wednesday! The peanut butter had honey mixed in with it and it was wonderful. I checked the menus and they still serve it.

I made chili the other night for frito pies and had some left over. I decided to try this combination for lunch today. Just thought I'd let yall know that I'm giving it a try. Will report back.

I grew up in central IL, and my school had the chili and PB sandwiches (no jelly!) combo too. I LOVED it. DH thought it was weird the first time I made it. He will eat it, but he refuses to dunk. :rotfl2: Oh, and the meal always came with a banana too. I remember plenty of kids dipping their bananas in the chili, but I never did that.

Growing up in WV we always had peanut butter sandwiches with chili too! Honey was mixed with the peanut butter and spread on bread. :thumbsup2
