Is this a weird combination?

Growing up in Indiana my school served peanut butter sandwiches with a bowl of chili. Today I decided that's what I wanted for dinner and my DH was like . He grew up twenty miles from me and has never heard of such a combination.

Does anyone else eat peanut butter sandwiches with their chili, or does the thought of it make you cringe?

That is my husbands favorite meal..and exactly what he had for dinner last nite, homemade chili and peanut butter sandwiches, lol! I don't do chili as I don't like beans. When he first told me that's how he liked it..I couldn't believe it either, but to each their own..so you aren't the only one!!

:rotfl2:
No, I have never heard of that. I suppose it's one of those concoctions made up by the school food budget.

Now a grilled cheese sandwich. Yes!!!

I haven't ever heard of that combination and it does make me cringe but then I don't like peanut butter sandwiches.

We had a thread like this on here a few years ago. I had never heard of/had the combo, but it intrigued me.

Now, I LOVE it. The balance of the salty/sweet/savory/spicy is pretty awesome! Even better if you get some sour cream on there, too!

Around here our school serves the strange combination of spaghetti and cinnamon rolls.

But the cinnamon rolls have this really strange lemon flavored "icing" or whatever the heck the put on it.

bblleeehhhhh, just bleh

Never heard of the combination and it doesn't really appeal to me. Of course, down here, we do Frito pies which is just chili served over fritos with cheese, mustard, relish, onions, jalapenos, and any other topping you can think of.

You could come down here. Beans in chili is a sin where I'm from. :thumbsup2

Our school served Peanut Butter sandwiches with everything. You could make your own. Mainly they were to fill kids up when the regular lunch wasn't enough. I wouldn't eat them with Chili but I'm sure some did.

Sounds like an odd combo to me, but if you like it, go with it. I personally like cornbread with chili.

Yep, tastes in food can be very subjective...
But, that does sound very strange to me.

Now, a bowl of good homemade chili with hot fresh cornbread, right out of the cast iron skillet. OMG!!!! YUM!!!

Either that or good Nabisco Saltines and a glass of ice cold milk.

I always wondered what Peggy Hill meant by Frito Pie.

Grew up in Texas as well but never heard of anyone putting relish and mustard in their frito pies.

Every time I walk by a bag of Fritos here in NYC I want to make a big batch of Frito Pie but it isn't as good as when you would get it at a football game and they just cut open the single serve Fritos bag and pour the chili and cheese in it.

I've never heard of having peanut butter sandwiches with chili. It seems like grilled cheese might make more sense, but I've never heard of that either.

Speaking of strange combinations, I have to say that after seeing a Brady Bunch episode, I always eat pork chops with applesauce. <<<<said in my best Peter Brady accent.

It's soooo good. I wish I didn't like it as much as I did.

My mom recently lost a large amount of wight using Jenny Craig. About a year ago, she was talking to her consultant about what she could have at a football game and my mom said that there really weren't a lot of healthy options and she was sure Frito pie didn't make the cut. The consultant had never heard of it. So my mom told her about it and how it's a very common thing to have them at the football games around here. Gosh, now I'm really wanting one. I think I will add that to the menu one day this week.

:scared1: Frito's and chili in a bag!

Well they give you one of those little paper bowls that hot dogs come in but yeah our high school booster club ladies always just sniped the bag long ways and put everything straight in it.

No never heard of that before either. Might have to try it.

Here we have cheese bread toast with ours. Or just buttered toast if I don't have cheese bread.

This combo of chili and peanut butter sandwiches sounded disgusting to me when DH first asked for it. That's been many years ago now and I no longer cringe. But...you MUST whip guava jelly into the peanut butter, then spread it on bread. Makes it "just right" for dipping into the chili. I still pass on it.
