Is this a really good phone plan or am I missing something?

Verizon just sent me an offer for a new phone plan...

Here's what you'll get with Veriations Freedom:

Unlimited direct-dialed long distance calling anytime, anywhere in the U.S. and to Canada
Unlimited direct-dialed local and regional calling
Unlimited use of Home Voice Mail, Caller ID, Call Waiting, Speed Dialing 8 and Three-Way Calling
And, you get discounted rates for international calls included at no extra charge!

It's $54.95 a month! That's way cheaper than my regular/long distance phone bill now...

Cell phones are the future, eventually they are going to put the home phone companies out of business.

is it a 2 or 3 year commitment??

I wish that was my cell phone plan.. it's my regular home phone!

Alex, Verizon must be making the same offer all over the country - we have the same offer here in PA.

I think that it sounds like a fantastic deal, and if I did not already use pre-paid calling cards and my cell phone for long distance and local long distance calls, I would jump on the plan. Since I don't use the local long distance and long distance, it does not really save me changing to this plan. :(

Now if they would just add in internet service...

If you take that plan, you can call all of us. :p

As long as I want for free! I could call and read all of War and Peace over the phone!! Sounds like fun doesn't it?

Sure does! I'm expecting my call. ;)

I have a friend in NYC that just joined up on this plan about a month ago. So far, she loves it. Says it is much better than her old plan. She did have to sign a years contract but she didn't mind that...slamming happens so often in NY that she figured it would stop that from happening, and she doesn't plan on changing. The best thing about it for her is the unlimited long distace anytime.

It does sound like a cell phone plan though doesn't it. Guess the land line phone companies have to compete now.

I got that offer from Verizon, but I think it was for $59.95. I had a call from my cable company offering the same thing but for $34.95. So cable wins, only thing is, my phone number will change.

My MIL just signed up for that (she's in PA). I was going to, but Verizon doesnt offer local service ot my area of FL :( Oh well, at least now when I call her, she just calls me right back since she's unlimited, that way I don't have to pay.

Sounds like a great plan, Alex!!

I should tell a friend of mine about this, she has used her cell phone before as her "home Line". She got sick and tired of the phone company's raking her over the coals!!!

Oh, and I'd like to receive a call too!!!!

We had a plan similar to this in Ontario, Canada. I joined up....then about 8 or so months down the road the company decided that too many people were 'abusing' the unlimited hours deal. So they put a cap on how many hours you could talk, and if you went over that you had to pay a certain amount per minute. (they did not notify customers until it showed up on the bill if you had gone over)

Does your offer have any info about guaranteed unlimited?

Sounds like a great plan if you can get it and not have to worry that in X number of months it will change.

OOops, sorry I posted about this same plan. I did get it, hope it pays off for me. :D

I signed up with the Verizon plan a couple of weeks ago and I'm LOVING it!! :D Last month my MCI bill was $65 and my local Verizon was $30. That's with "watching" my long distance calls. Now I can talk as long as I want as still only pay the $55!

My parents, who can can barely change TV channels with a remote, have scrapped their home phone and are total cell phone users now. They live winters in FL and summers in VT and have Verizon. They just keep the same phone year round. I guess it works well for them.

I don't even have a cell!

Hmmm, I was offered a plan on Thursday that I signed up for that is the almost the same amount of money with the same benefits, sort of. I joined it because it covered toll calls. My mom's sisters and brothers live nearby, but out of the extended calling area. The sales person at Verizon told me it only covered certain area codes. I'm going to call them back and find out about this plan. I've been using Sam's Club cards for all my long distance calls because it's only 3 cents a minute. :) Hmmm, this is interesting.

Wow! I just checked it out and I guess I signed up for the same plan, not realizing that it covered ALL long distance calls! Very cool Alex! Thanks for posting about this and thanks for posting the link for me. I guess she just read the area codes in my area for me. :o I thought the plan only covered those area codes. :o Very cool! I'm going to check with them tomorrow to make sure though! Thank you again! :)
