I just got an email from someone on ebay saying

"What happend with my item. I have paid for it. Let me know asap or i will have to report you to eBay."

It looked legit, the same page when you ask a seller a question about an item thru ebay. Since I do not sell on ebay only buy...i didn't click on the item #. I did a search on ebay and the item # was for something that did not sell since the reserve was not met and this person was not the highest bidder.

Then i did a search on the person and it came up with 0 feedback, registered on 7-4-05 and is now no longer a registered user.

It sounds like some sort of scam, since the person isn't registered anymore. Did the person selling this item have a similar ebay name as you? Maybe this buyer got confused. Also, in the email, did it say Dear your ebay user name? It should if its coming from Ebay. To be on the safe side, I would forward the email to spoof@ebay.com They can tell you if the email was from Ebay or not.

Definitely a scam. Anytime you get unsolicited email, it is probably a scam.

Just looked at it again. It did not say Dear with my ebay user name it said, ebay sent this message on behalf of an ebay member (then it gave their name). Also i just looked again at the item # listed and this person never bid on the item. The more i look at it i figure it is a scam. At first i thought maybe the person got confused but something told me not to click on the link.

I always get the ebay scams that say stuff like "your paypal account is suspended click here to update" since i don't have a paypal account i knew that was a scam.

Thank you for the address spoof@ebay.com. I just sent it to ebay.

Its a scam but not new... I've gotten several of these in the past... I always forward them to spoof@ebay.com...

Paypal also has a spoof@paypal.com addy if you get those specifically about your Paypal account. I report them because it gives them a chance to shut down some of the sites that are still in operation.
