Is this a good rate - Alamo?

I got a base rate from Alamo of $122.50
for 5 days (Tues - Sun) including additional driver.
After taxes, surcharges and fees the total is $157.03.

Is this a good rate?

Also, is it a good idea to waive the Collision Damage Insurance,
if I don't have my own insurance?
If I add the insurance the rate will be $267.41 (inclusive of all fees)

Thanks

I used a Sam's Club code, plus a $15 coupon to get a mid-size car for 6 days for $148.00 (with taxes & fees it came to $138.00).

If you reserve the car with a credit card, check with your credit car company to see if they provide insurance - I think some of them do.

I checked with my insurance company before I left to verify that my coverage on my personal car covered a rental car, and it did (so I didn't get Alamo's coverage) but my agent had told me that I might want to consider it - that if I had an accident, it wouldn't affect my personal rates or show up on my policy. But I didn't take Alamo's coverage. But I probably would have either taken Alamo's or not even rented the car IF I didn't have insurance coverage.

You're asking for it if you don't have some coverage. That's why they're called accidents -- no body really plans to have a wreck. If someone hit your car while it was parked in the parking lot and left without letting you know, you would be liable. And believe me, they would charge you the maximum.

If yourent from Alamo, don't have them fill the car with gas -- they charge $4.99 a gallon. The exit right before the airport exit on RT 417 (I think it is Landstar) has a service station/convenience store -- it will cost a 25 cent toll to get off or get back on RT 417 but you save a ton of money by filling up with gas before you turn in the car

They only charge you that God awful rate for gas IF you don't opt for the prepurchase gas option or return it full. We gas up at the Hess station on 535 and the needle registers full all the way to the airport.

We rented from dollar in CA a mini van, after driving down the coast for about a week we were in an accident with 7 other cars, we did over 7000.00 $ in damage, we had used a gold credit card, first state farm paid most of it, and gold cc picked up the balance,we didnt even pay a deductible I think, but Im sure in the long run we did. Our insurance did go up a wee bid for about a year. Thank god DH was driving who is police/fireman and it wasnt me :) Since then I have checked with SF they said we are covered when we travel.
