My friend has the opportunity to get me one of these and I thought it would be a good Christmas gift for my 12 year old. They are the ones that were used in the schools. Is the price good? I thought so, but my dh thinks it's high.

What do you think??

Get the stats-make, model, how old and such and compare with the apple.com website refurb section. You might be able to find a newer one at a better or same price and it comes with Apple warranty. If your childs school is a participating school, he can get a small student discount.

It really depends on the specs (processor, RAM, hard drive).

I have a six year old iBook G4 that I might want to sell. I was thinking of asking around $200 for it, but considering that it originally cost around $1200, I'm thinking it might not even be worth it to sell it.

These are the ones that came out of the schools...... they were refurbished and for sale to state employees.

I wouldnt do it. I see what kids do to school laptops/desktops and it is torture.. it's like buying a former rental car.

Go to apple.com check on refurbs there. Yes, it will still be a refurb but it wont be one that (most likely) wouldn't have kids banging on it, touching it, dropping it, etc...
