Is this a good plan?

We have booked 7 nights at Cabana Bay for the end of August. There are 2adults & 4kids, so this was by far much, much cheaper then renting 2 rooms or a suite at RP. But it's killing me not to have the Express passes. We are looking at only doing US 3 or 4 days, then also Sea Word/Aquatica & Discovery Cove.

So I was thinking, if we go to US the 1 day and realize that the lines are crazy and we need the Express passes, would it make sense to book a 1night stay at RP during the middle of our trip? We'd have 2 hotels booked for that 1 night. That way we'd get 5 express passes for 2 days. (My husband doesn't do rides, so he doesn't need a EP) It's about $240 for a RP room. That's way cheaper then buying 5 express passes for 2 days.

In my head this seems like the way to go. Am I missing anything?

the last week in august doesn't have the crowds as the rest of august will.
pull up the park hour chart and see when the closing times are cut back.
that will be an indicator that UO expects less in the parks.

if you go while the parks are still open to 10, then booking a one night stay onsite would be beneficial.
two days of unlimited usage for the express lines.
but, if you need 2 rooms, do the math to see if it will be financial of benefit for you.

reread your post where you say you'll keep the Cbay as husband won't be doing the rides.
well, this might be a decent plan then if the parks are open late on some of your nights.

Thanks Macraven! I looked at 2014 park hours and it looks like the days we're there the parks close at 8:30. So probably crowds won't be horrible? That's why I'm going to wing it. If it looks bad, I should be able to call and get a room while we're there, right?

hopefully you will be able to get a standard room as those are the cheapest in the deluxe hotels.
water views cost a bit more, not a fortune but if you are only using it for one night and just for the hotel perks.
why pay for the view if it's not an issue for you.
