Is this a good deal?

Hi, We aren't going to Disney until Janurary. But I am trying to get some numbers together to determine the cheapest way for us to stay there...I was hoping that you guys could help.

Okay...we are staying 10 nights. We would like 10 day park hoppers. We are 2 adults & 2 children (ages 6 and 2). I called Disney and they quoted me a 10 night package at Pop Century with 10 day hoppers and dining for $2371.79. Then AAA quoted me a price of $2124.77 for the same w/ insurance. We are driving down in our car.

They had to quote my dates as being in December because the January dates haven't been released yet.

At my local office, the lady there told me that they are having a "Disney Day" on March 12th. She said there would be discounts on that day if I book. She thinks that Disney will have their January dates and all by then. But the lady that I spoke with from Disney (by phone) said that it could be the summer before I can book my package.

So is $2124.77 a great deal? Would it have been better for me to just book everything seperately and hope for a room-only code? And last question, do you think that I will be able to book my January package in one month?

Thanks for all you help!! :grouphug:

First of all, I just wanted to tell you how adorable your little men are! That picture in your signature is sooooo precious!

Now for the prices. Obviously, the Disney rate that they're giving you isn't a discounted rate. However, the price seems a little high. Are they quoting you a price for the holiday season portion of December as opposed to the value season?

The current rack rate for Pop is $77/night with a tax rate of 11.5%. For 10 nights, that would come to $858.55. 2 adult and 2 child 10-day MYW Premium passses with expiry would run you $1097 if you purchased them at the Gate today. That would bring your trip to just under $1956....and that would be rack rate and tickets at the gate. There are cheaper ways of getting the tickets, even thru Disney.

IMO, $2125 isn't such a great deal and you could probably do better. Think a little more carefully about you ticket options, perhaps changing them to 7-day MYW hoppers with expiry (no pluses). Also, consider purchasing them from someone other than Disney. Most of the ticketbrokers can beat Disney's advance-sale prices.

Even if Disney doesn't have AAA discounts or room rates available for Jan 2006, it does not mean that you cannot book a room for your dates. They will not be able to give you an exact number but that can always be adjusted once the rates do come out.

Is your little guy going to be 2 when you go? If so, you won't need hopper passes for him. Children under 3 do not require park admission. Not sure on the numbers for packages vs room only ~ I booked mine separately as it worked out cheaper for me, but we are not going for 10 days either.

Thanks so much for your replies. And for the compliment on my little men! I thought they looked so cute in their suits with Mickey!!

Fortunately, We have until March to decide what we are gonna do. So I think that I will do some more number crunching until then. This is our first 10 day trip, the most we have gone before is 7 nights...so I would like to save as much money as possible.

So thanks for all your help... :grouphug:

Yes, that quote DOES contain dining.

Doing the numbers again, it does seem like a good number to me too. We love character dinners, so with the dining option we can afford to have more of those than we normally would.

And I gotta tell ya...having everything paid for and all ready to go will be so great. Especially with it being right after Christmas. Money is a little tight then, if ya know what I mean. ;)

And the lady from AAA told me that if I book on "Disney Day" on March 12th...that price would be lower. Because they are having a special discount on that day, but she couldn't give me the specifics.

Now I am just hoping that Disney will start booking January dates by March 12th.

Thanks for all of your help...you guys are the greatest! :grouphug:
