Ya know, rental rates change constantly. Hour/hour, DayxDay.
What is good for the exact day/time etc. today is horrible for that exact same day/time when I check on next Wednesday.
Just because I got a better rate four minutes ago, or one month ago for that same trip does not mean that the rate you got is good, bad, indifferent -- for the moment in time you searched.
Having said that, How I determine -- for my own peace of mind -- if I got a good rate is to go to Hotwire and see what they want to charge me for a "mystery rate" and then try to beat it by 20 percent.
From all I have read and investigated over the years, beating Hotwire by 20 percent is a pretty good rate....if I beat them by 30 percent, hey, open the sparkling wine.
The thing is, if I beat them by 20 percent today, rates may drop like a rock tommorrow, next week, next month. If you want the absolute lowest, you have to check a few times a day, each and every day.
If you have a life and don't want to spend a large portion searching for car rates, do what I said -- check Hotwire, find a rate and book....and then check Hotwire occassionally until your trip. If you see rates drop, then go on another search and destroy.
good luck
