Is this a coincidence?

We usually stay offsite at our TS in Kissimmee, weeks not points. We decide to add 2 nights precruise and visit Epcot the day before sailing. So I check out Google maps and see that BC is so close, we could walk. A real plus since we'll really only have 1.5 days due to our late arriving flight.
So I book BC with AAA rate and we're set, right? Then I get to thinking how tight the room will be and look into renting DVC points and I check out those threads.

Why is it that so many Dis-ers that respond to offers to rent points are soooo brand new? Are they trolls or maybe just a coincidence that people on the internet searching to rent DVC points end up finding disboards.com?
It's been so long since I found the Dis, I don't recall how I found it but I know I did sort of stumble onto it.

I felt like I was one of very few to have a siggie at all and so many couldn't even PM yet. You just don't see that many newbies all in 1 area out on the rest of the boards? Are the trying to scam DVC owners?
Just wondering what the 'atmosphere' is there?

Is it worth even posting on a thread that is 5 pages long? Our plans are set, cruise paid and flights purchased. Whether we rent from DVC owner or not, our trip will happen barring some last minute major health issue. (Just saying, we're not just considering a trip and trying to get prices.)

Your thoughts/opinions, etc? :confused3

Effective 2/1, there are more stringent rules for using the rent/trade boards - must have 50 posts over 6 months outside the Rent/Trade boards, meaningful content, etc.

I would not be trying to rent points from anyone with only a few posts on the boards. I would be looking for someone with more of a history. You could also try renting from David's service, dvcbyrequest.com (check his ad @ the top of the R/T board) if you are willing to pay a little more per point.

I just signed up this month for these boards so I'm very new at this. We bought into DVC last September on our trip and we're already planning on another trip through DVC this year. We have no intentions of using the rest of our points so we were looking into the option of renting them out. I don't have but maybe 10 posts on here and I noticed that I need at least 50 to be able to start a new thread on the R/T board. I think there may be a few peeps out there trying to scam DVC owners and that's just a risk we all have to take, but most of us out here seem pretty legit. (So I've noticed in my short time here.) I don't think the number of posts should necessarily be what you're looking at when deciding who to rent from, but that's going to be all up to you in the end. Good luck and hope you have another awesome trip.

Sorry, I must not have explained correctly. My fault for giving the whole long story.:guilty:

I'm not referring to the # of posts of the DVC owners that I'm looking to rent from. I'm talking about the other non-members that I'm competing with so to speak, who are also looking to rent points. Considering how passionate about WDW people are here on the Dis, esp on the resorts board, I would think there would be more Dis veterans there to rent points also.

I'm thinking that DVC owners are like a target for trolls (not that all new Dis-ers are trolls!) but just seemed ironic to have so many new posters in 1 area. I was wondering if DVC owners might say, "Wow, every time I post about renting my points, only half the posts are from legit people truly looking to rent my points."

Am I making sense?

i'm pretty sure i found the DIS originally through a website that recommended renting points as a good value for staying onsite at wdw, and that suggested the DIS as a place to look for rentals.

so i'm not too surprised that a number of n00bs start on the DVC forums trying to figure out how the rentals work...

Thanks, that's what I was thinking but I worry too much sometimes. ;)
