Is this a change to paying dues with gift cards?

Which is why I said to only use the credit card option towards the end of the year when you have enough disney rewards to apply to the balance on the credit card website and you would be paying off the dues for the year in full and no longer need the auto pay to be restarted until the following year. At that point it wouldn't matter. Obviously, this does not apply to the Disney Gift cards but it's at least a way to use the Disney Rewards.

However, who of us DVC member doesn't have other Disney charges they can apply the balance of the rewards to instead :rolleyes1 We just bought a painting from the BWV art gallery and I was pleasantly surprised to see it coded as a Disney purchase and I applied some reward $$ to that purchase. I thought that was an independent gallery not owned by Disney. It was renamed to promenade gallery from wyland so maybe its a newer change and now run by the Mouse instead.
That part went completely over my head! I don't use my Disney Visa much anymore so I just apply my Capital one travel rewards because they can be used for lots of travel, including dues.

Do you have more than one contract? Do you still have a balance?

Maybe they won’t let people prepay with a 0 balance?

Yes I have more than 1 contract.
No I don't have a balance
Yes they do let people prepay.

4. I'm an idiot

After logging out and back in I selected new card and then it gave the option for gift cards as opposed to my stored cc.
I thought new card was just for credit cards...

🤦‍♀️

It is not giving me the option to add any funds via GC since all of my balances are $0.....I can prepay using my CC, but not gift card.

So, it looks like you won't even be able to apply GC until there is a balance there. ETA: I see that add the new card is what brought it. It shows that for me too, but I would have to cancel autopay to add GC funds...which I don't want to do.

Yes when I saw "New Card" I really was thinking a new credit card, not new gift card or new redemption card. Silly me

I did the same thing until I saw your posts so I too am an idiot!!! HAHAHA

What we do know now is that you definitely can not just make a partial payment to your dues as long as one is enrolled in auto pay. Its going to be a turn of/back on situation, assuming DVC doesn't require one to pay balance in full if they turn it off after the 15th of February.

My gut tells me they won't allow the on/off every month...but the hope is that this is Disney IT, so maybe!!

I love this detective disboard crew, forever helpful.

So just to clarify for my own situation: I’ve already prepaid 2/3 of our dues with GCs collected all year and plan to pay the rest in January in full. With this change, I can’t do what I usually do and just add GCs as a credit throughout the year next year, is that right?

I hope they do not get rid of the option. If I cant pay dues by GC the value of DVC goes down about 15% for me. If paying dues with GC wasn't an option it's a strong possibility I wouldn't have looked further into buying.
I'm probably one of the village idiots here, so forgive my ignorance.

If you pay your dues with cash, but use the DGC for other Disney expenses that you would have had to use cash for when you paid your dues with the DGC, isn't it a wash?

Somebody please help me. I’m driving myself crazy trying to figure out how using ‘Pay Yourself Back’ could help me do better than getting 2% back. Let’s keep it simple and say I’ll make ten $100 payments to pay $1000 dues bill.

What would the math look like?

^I’m feeling like a village idiot too 😂

The only way you would get more than 2% if in shopping in those categories with the disney premier card that earns 5%

I have the no AF card so I only get 1% on everything so I really never use the card except on shopdisney to get discounts/free shipping.
The only other time I use it is if it qualifies for a bonus. I check every month at chase.com/mybonus to see if there are any 5% categories. Right now I received 5% back at Amazon, Gas and Groceries. So I used that card at Meijer when they were giving 10% off Disney GC with mperks and ended up with $50 in Disney Dollars.

As far as your example with 2% you would earn $20 in Disney rewards that you could then use towards one of your $100 dues payment.

So, my view is that you won’t be able to turn it back on. The recent notification relating to annual dues payments says:

Pay Dues Via Auto-Pay
Disney Vacation Club offers 2 options for Auto-Pay: a yearly payment on January 15 with a credit card or monthly payments with a US bank account. By registering for Dues Auto-Pay, you can enjoy the magic of Membership without the worry of missing a payment. The annual deadline to register for Auto-Pay is January 15. If your account is actively enrolled in Auto-Pay, please review your payment information for accuracy.

Note the deadline, so if you turn it off after Jan 15 you can not re-enroll. So full payment will be due if you turn it off.

Also, the link to the auto-enrolment / dues payment terms and conditions is here:

My 2024 dues are paid in full and I have partially paid for 2025. Just tried prepaying and I was given the option to pay with a GC.

Since you are never enrolled in the monthly payment program, the system should work for you like always. What seems to have changed is DVC enforcing the rules that monthly payments must come from a bank account, and you can't go in and use a Disney GC or Disney Rewards card to cover the monthly payment....

Anyone who wants to use those choices in January and to prepay for the following year, should have no problem since you are not doing the monthly option.

Even though we dine at TS constantly are dues expense still trumps it so I would say no.

We do try and gather as many GC throughout the year so we are not outlying any cash that has not provided some sort of discount whether that is a direct one or in the form of points/miles.

Good catch!!! I did not see that....I agree with you.....once you set up monthly payments, you either pay the contract balance in full or you have to continue with the monthly payments using your bank account!

That makes sense.

I feel like what I spend on Disney every year exceeds my dues, but maybe that's more feeling than reality :)

I wonder if you could call Accounting to have them apply a GC later on.

You do have to cancel autopay for each contract and reenter. I had a pile of DGC's in the drawer, so it was worth it to get rid of them and pay towards 2025. I had already paid ahead towards 2025.
