Not in my experience.

Most airlines have the attitude that if you are flying at the last minute, it's because of necessity. And it's on your company's dime, most times.

Leisure travelers usually plan their trips well in advance or just have to be prepared to pay the cost of last minute travel.

Haven't seen them in years. Last time I got a good deal for a last minute flight was January 2006- Providence to Orlando on Southwest for $110 n/s r/t.

Like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

But - we got a great xmas present where we found a low fare a week in advance of the holiday to bring a family member home from europe.

We tried all the sites first and then started watching the individual airlines websites. We literally got the only cheap seat and I don't know why it was there!

Not like there used to be once upon a time. Plus you run the risk of not getting a flight on your travel date, times, or paying twice as much because the airline realizes most people waiting till the last minute will pay nearly ANYTHING to get to their destination.
