Is there still a latch at the top of the resort rooms door

There seem to be reports of all sorts of things happening, many of which are done when the guest is upset. I guess there could be some question about when they make their report could there be some exaggeration going on about just out much time was given? Possible. I don't believe they've been doing anything like barging through the door, breaking the latch, like a police entering on TV. (some reports have made it sound that bad) but there are clearly times they aren't giving the guest enough time in their minds.

Yes, there is a latch, but the hotel staff have a special tool that they can open the door with, regardless of said latch.

So unless you are planning to actually blockade the door with furniture... the latched, locked door is no longer as secure as they had us believing... :(

This is nothing new. Hotels have always had a work around for the security latch. I will continue to use the security latch. I use it each and every time I'm in the room. (Disney or other brand hotel.) That avoids someone walking into the room without much notice.
I don't believe staff are walking around circumventing the security latch on a regular basis without cause.

I will continue to use housekeeping. I tend to think that by making it reasonably easy for them to do "checks" via housekeeping, they will bother me less.

Funny story. Before reading, know that no one was ever blocked from our room. No one was denied entry during this situation. Disney never knew that this happened. And it wasn't intentional.

During our last stay, we came back for a nap midday. I have a scooter. I park it inside the door, blocking the connecting door, but leaving the room totally accessible. My husband normally parks it and plugs it in while I unpack the basket and make sure that water and soda are in the fridge for the afternoon.

Well, I did the parking. And somehow I left it in front of the door, totally blocking it. And I left it there. For our nap.

When we woke up and got ready to leave, we realized that the door was totally blocked. My husband commented about Disney being upset because they couldn't come in and collect trash.

I haven't read a single report where WDW actually did bypass the security latch to enter a guest's room for the security check.

Can they do so? Yes, they have the capability.
Are they doing so? Not that I'm aware.
Will they do so? I'd like to think only if absolutely necessary - as in the guest has locked themselves in the room with the latch for an extended period of time, refusing WDW entry at any time; not because the guest just stepped out of the shower and needs a minute to pull clothes on.

OP -- engage the security latch when in the room and enjoy your vacation!

Wow. I have not seen a report yet of them bypassing the latch and just coming in when a guest has replied saying "wait a minute". That's really crazy.

That is because they haven't done that. They have come in if the latch wasn't on.

They have come in if the latch wasn't on.

This.:)

I should have been more specific in my Post,FWIW there have been reports where the Security Check CM would not wait before entering the room when requested by the Guest to do so.

I haven't seen any reports yet as to how they "react" to the Safety Latch being engaged and the Guest refusing to release the Latch at the Security Check CM's request.

Hopefully,we will have a "Safety Latch Report" soon-one would "think" the Latch would be enough to "buy" the Guest time to get "decent",etc..:)
