Is there really a room over the POTC ride?
My hubby swears there is an actual hotel room over the ride that used to be rented out.

Yes...it is the Dream Suite...but it is not something that any mere mortals have access to. You can not even buy your way in, it is used for gifts and rewards by Disney.

Is what Disneyland used to give away in the Year of a Million Dreams when WDW was giving away nights in the castle.

A stay in the Dream Suite, and the Cinderella Suite at WDW, is something that you can only win or receive as a gift from Disney or its affiliates. It is actually part of the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour now instead of Walt's apartment so that is a way you can get in to see it. For $109 pp that is

I remember when they had the fantasmic viewing/dessert buffet in the gallery balcony. That was definitely a highlight of my first solo trip to Disneyland.
