Is there interest in another California DVC

My wife and I have points in Florida and admittedly, we need more. That said, we live much closer to California and would have much more ability to use our points in Disneyland. The problem is, the Grand Californian is ALWAYS booked, or at least we haven't been able to find availability. It doesn't make sense for us to buy more points in Florida if we anticipate using them in California since we'll never be able to get in at times that are convenient for us.

So my question is, are we the only ones hoping for a California DVC announcement? Does anybody else think they would buy there? What type of resort would work best?

Please let me know your thoughts.

My thoughts are that you should add on at VGC. :D You will love it.

I think another resort in California will eventually happen. However it will start selling at 160+ per point, so if you want points at Disneyland having a look now at VGC resales will probably save you money anyway.
If instead you would like another resort in California just to have more chances to use your points at Disneyland, it's very hard to say. I might be a big resort or it might be small as well (there is not much space in DLR). And it may not happen befor 5+ years. So the safest option tobe able to book at DL when you want is to buy VGC resale now.

DLR and WDW are very different. if i were local to disneyland, i would think more in terms of dropping in on a whim (i.e. without a lot of advance planning). the problem is timeshares don't tend to work well that way unless they have a lot of capacity (maybe like SSR for WDW...or the glut of timeshares in orlando in general). so even if they built another DVC near DLR, i don't think it would work well for most locals (and probably isn't worth Disney cannibalizing hotel rooms.)

i should add that the current setup also provides some incentive to pay extra to buy direct, since you could use the direct pts at disneyland hotel rooms.

that probably works against a new CA resort as well...

I think there is a lot of interest in another DVC resort at Disneyland - from everyone except Disney! And unfortunately, their's the only vote that counts on this!

Even owning at VGC isn't a guarantee of success. Certainly one could buy some points there and try to use them periodically. Here's another consideration. Why not consider another timeshare. As Charles points out, the difference in off property is less than at WDW and Wyndham has a couple of resort close, within around a mile if I'm reading the info correctly. That way you'd have a complement to DVC to do other things. Obviously this choice isn't for everyone but it's the best for many in this type of situation.

As a Wyndham (and DVC owner), I think this is something to consider. Wyndham has one resort (Dolphin's Cove) which is fairly close to DL (not as close as VGC however). Also, Worldmark has a property nearby, and Shell has Peacock Suites. Both Worldmark and Shell are now owned by Wyndham, so you have access to them through Wyndham, but only on a limited basis. Availability at Dolphin's Cove isn't the greatest, though better than VGC. You may want to consider renting at one of the Wyndham properties or at Shell to see what you think. There is also a big price difference (stayed in a 2BR at Peacock Suites back in January for a cost of about $1000 for the week, which would not be happening at VGC).

I think Wyndham also has some inventory in the same building as Worldmark.

+1 in favor of DVC + (another brand of timeshare). As noted above, Worldmark offers two properties near DLR -- an easy walk for us. We've owned Worldmark since 2000 and have completed >125 total stays across 40+ Worldmark properties. Love the system!

I would love to see an expansion of DVC rooms at VGC or one of the other Disney resorts since its difficult to get a room at VGC. I believe that those home resort DVC members understandably snatch them up quick.
