Is there anything to avoid in July or August?

We want to go to DL next year for the first time! But I don't know when to go. It has to be in July or August. I will avoid the July 4th time frame, is there any other time to avoid?

I read somewhere today that the marathon is the last weekend of August, and AP's open up at the end of AUgust. Does anyone know when the AP's open up for sure... is it the last week of August? How can I find out?

Are there other events usually during this time to try to avoid?

How about the weather of July vs August?

Bats Day is usually in mid-August. It's when a large group of goths invade DL and it's usually crowded that weekend. Other than that, there aren't usually that many special events to be avoided. Weather is generally about the same in both months. Hot, but not humid.

Bats Day this year, is November 8Th and 9Th instead of August.

Late August might be better due to some schools going back. But beyond that, your in prime peak summer time, gonna be hot and crowded.

I agree with this. MANY schools are on a modified traditional schedule and start back either the last week in July or the first week in August. I know tons of schools in Northern CA are starting back on July 29th or 30th this year. So, if you can go in August- preferably the end of August, I think you will be very happy with the crowds.

Wow! They start school really early. Long Island, NY schools don't start until Sept 3. Maybe we should go the second week of August 2009 instead of July like previously planned. When do AP holders have access again? I thought I read somewhere, they were blocked during summer months.
