who has been throwing up since this morning? :( Not other "symptoms" just throwing up... a lot. I have Pedalyte and juice. He is just miserable. One second he thinks he is OK, and the next, he is back under his blanket :(

Both babies have the flu... L didn't seem to get hit near as hard with the vomiting. They have never had vomiting before, poor kiddos. I think it scares them both, just the retching and then vomiting. :(

I'd like to find something that might help with the vomiting...

Poor baby. Don't give him anything to drink until he hasn't vomited for an hour, then give him a tablespoon of water. If he keeps that down for 15 minutes then another tablespoon and so on. Hope he feel better asap.

Stop giving them fluids for one thing.;)

I think rule is that if they don't throw up for an hour or so you give them a couple of teaspoons, and then if they hold that down for an hour you can double that and so on.

Anyway you hold off on liquids while they are throwing up because the stomach needs to settle. If you give them too much fluids too soon, it makes them throw up more which makes them feel worse.

I feel for you. I had to take my 13yodd to the Oral Surgeon today for some work. She passed out before the procedure. And let me tell you it is hair raising watching that. Like a horror movie. It really looks like a seizure but it is not.

So now I am nursing a kid who is some pain.

Anyway, hope your kids get well soon.

I would stop giving him juice because it's probably irritating his stomach. Definitely continue giving him Pedialyte. I wouldn't give him large amounts of it. Wait about 30 minutes after the last time he vomited; if he is no longer vomiting, then start by giving him a teaspoon of Pedialyte. If he doesn't throw up for 30 minutes, then give him another and so on. That's what our ped recommended when my kids were vomiting.

Is he showing signs of dehydration? Does your ped have a nurse on call that you can contact for suggestions?

Poor babies.

I wouldn't give him water. He needs to replenish the electrolytes that he has lost through vomiting. You won't find them in water.

Talk to me. How much is a lot. If it is more than twice an hour for over 12 hrs you need to take the child to the ER for fluids and an anti-emetic. He/she is probably dehydrated by now. If it is every couple of hours, then the advice you got about if they have not vomited in an hour give them one tablespoon of fluid per hour after they have stopped vomiting is appropriate. After about 6 hrs of clear liquids, you can go to a BRAT diet. BRAT stands for Banananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast.

Also, do not give water, give Pedialyte. It will replinish depleted volume of the body. Water, especially cold water is very hard on an upset tummy. Ginger Ale is good on an upset tummy.

my kids just had the stomach bug. My daughter vomited a few times and was fine. My son(3) got it 2 days later and was completely different. He woke up fine, and an hour later he was really lethargic and then with no warning at just kept vomiting. He wouldnt even sit up to puke. I had to grab him or he would choke. He was sick for about 4 hours and then I managed to get a popsicle in him, once he kept that down I gave him pedialyte and he was fine since. He was eating and playing within 6 hours of getting sick. The only thing is he has had a slight fever since last night. not sure if it is related to the bug or something else.

It's been 1-2x per hour since around noonish. He woke up fine. Taught himself how to burp on command today (ewww) and then *kabam* vomiting.

OK stopping the liquids.... will do just tiny amounts of pedalyte. Glad we had some on hand! I just feel so bad for him. He slept most of the afternoon and is acting fine now except for vomiting now and then.

When my kid is sick, I just hang out with him. When he was a toddler, I was still nursing him (kid nursed like a typical newborn until he was practically 3) so I didn't need to use pedialyte etc, but I let him nurse whenever he wanted. If he threw it up, so be it. At least he got some nutrition in him before throwing it up. If I were using things like pedialyte because I wasn't nursing, I would have used it exactly like breastmilk. If he was thirsty, he could have some. If he threw it up, so be it.

Just cuddle when they want to cuddle, make sure they aren't getting dehydrated, if they have a fever take a tepid bath with them (nicer than using drugs, because you KNOW when the fever is over instead of just wondering if the drugs are still working), if they want to bundle up do it, if they want to wear shorts, do it...their little bodies are governed by brains that haven't been immersed in "what to do", and I like to trust that "lizard brain", or "innate intelligence" whenever possible.

I also use homeopathy, but that might not be something to just jump into, if you don't have good books about it or a homeopath on call. :goodvibes

No food or water, just pedialite (if he'll drink it - or watered down gaterade). One tablespoon, ever 15 minutes. Don't give too much liquid, or else it will come back up. That's pretty much it! My twins vomited for 7 straight days in a row when they were one - I just checked for wet diapers, and did the every 15 minute dosing.
