Is there anyone who doesn't like AKL but like AKL concierge?

This may sound like a strange question. We checked out AKL twice (never stayed there) and ate at Boma (did not care for it). However, I keep hearing how great AKL concierge is, I am tempted to make a reservation there, but DH thinks I am nuts since I don't care for AKL when we visited.

Should I just drop this idea? (We are staying at WL for 5 nights in late August, and I am considering splitting the stay between WL and AKL concierge, but hate the idea of possibly not having a room until late while my kids need an afternoon nap).

What is your thought?:D

What did you not like about the AKL when you visited? Besides Boma. Those things are still going to exist even if you are booked Concierge.

I don't like its location, you can't get anywhere like other deluxe hotels, even from WL, you are only a boat ride away from MK.

Also, the resort is very dark for our liking. We walked around checking out the animals, but within an hour, we felt we were done, not sure we will need to watch the animals that long to stay there.

I have heard a lot of good things about Boma, maybe I am too unadverturous in food, I did not like most of the offerings, ended up eating off kids' station's mac and cheese and spaghetti. The desserts were good. For the 3 of us (2 adults and 1 child), only DH ate, for what we paid, we would have done a lot better at a counter service.

However, it is just one of those things that no matter what you hear, unless you try it yourself, you won't know. At least now I know no matter what people say about Boma, I will not go back. For the same reason, I wrote off Jiko.

I guess I just answered my own question, we will stay at WL for our entire stay.:D

It sounds to me like AKL isn't for you.

Conceirge is not going to make a difference when it comes to the things that you disliked at AKL because all of those issues will be issues in conceirge as well as in a regular room.

Since you didn't like it the first time I would choose another resort more to your liking.

Please DO NOT stay at the AKL. If you can be finished wth the animals in about an hour then this is not your cup of tea.

Concierge, while impressive, will not make a bit of diference given the perceptions and opinions you already have about AKL.

Stay where you know you'll be happy, concierge or not...

Hi there ~ I don't think concierge is going to change your opinion of the hotel... it only enhances a stay - but you have to like it already!!

Stay where you know your family will be happy :)

5 days is a little short to split up over 2 hotels... how about upgrading to WL Concierge for the convenience of it?

>>^..^<<

I was going to say that the things you didn't like about AKL were the same with me until it came to the animal viewing. But I Loved Concierge with the Sunrise Safari, animal viewing, and liked Jiko but not Boma. I also thought Mara had a good African salad (that is what DS called it anyway) and the catfish was good as well.

Have a great stay at WL!:D

that is what I am hoping. We are staying at WL this time on a special rate offered due to POFQ closing. They won't allow me to pay extra to book concierge, so I have to see if they will let me pay $ to upgrade at check-in. Thanks

I hope I did not offend the animal lovers. We have a golden retriever and we love him to death. I think it is fun to watch the animals from AKL's balcony, but I don't think I will like it enough to offset the other reasons that I listed.

Sorry I don't mean to bash AKL, it is a wonderful resort. I just think, for us, there are other places I get more excited in staying at this point.

I wasn't offended at all. In fact one of the best things about all of WDW's resorts is that there is such a variety. What one family may love another family may hate. We love CSR but I know lots of people who hate it.

I personally can't wait to try AKL but we are going to wait until our kids are older and able to appreciate it a little more. We also want to wait until we can go during a time of the year when it is not dark by 6 pm so we can enjoy the view after a day in the parks.

Isn't it all about being excited:D I love the way you put that!

I wasn't offended either. I think some of your perceptions of AKL are incorrect, but the animal ingredient is huge. There are so many offerings at WDW it would be a shame to risk having any enjoyment hanging on something you weren't 100% in favor of...
