If you dont feel like reading through pages and pages how would you know new information is being added?

Usually I'll scan various responses and can tell by that.

Well lets just say that I am the "POSTER "Child the OP chose to call out because I added my 2 cents to a thread on the Budget Board and believe me I am so sorry I caused them any aggrevation, honestly I had read 5 pages on that thread last evening, and this morning I just went in and posted some info, but apparently it had been said somewhere else 24 pages back. I AM SO sorry I do not always have the time to sit in front of a computer and read 24+ pages. I usually do not post unless I feel I have something relevant to say...so again I am SO SORRY that I caused the OP so much aggrevation that they had to post on two separate threads on two different forums....first the Budget Boad and now the Community Board. Now I know why I spend less and less time on the disboards, it's because some of us cannot be as perfect as others. And some of us have lives other than in front of the computer....I work 60 hours a week and usually come here on a day off to get some info and perhaps give someone some that I feel maybe useful... .

Oh, lighten up. You're not the first one that I've crabbed at, and you won't be the last. And while you were one of the people I called out, you haven't been the only one. This thread is a response to all the ill-considered posts that clog up good threads.

And your post was utterly, completely repetitive. The OP has done a LOT of work with her situation since the 'first five pages', rendering your post just more visual litter.

If you work 60 hours a week and you only have a little time to post, then make sure your posts are read by not "littering" and instead adding something unique and considered to the thread. . About 90% of the people who are sticking with Friskykitty's thread probably never even bothered to read your post, assuming they could get past the "I only read five pages" to realize the advice was nothing more than duplication. You spend time on the Dis, then think about helping not just the OP but all the people who read afterwards...

I think a persons reading ability has to play a part. If the thread is huge I would expect duplicate posts. Some people are quick readers some aren't. Like posted above reading a few pages in the beginning and again at the end should give you the gist of where its at. But honestly after thinking about it some, whatever, people are gonna post what they like, where they like, and when they like, read it or don't.

It doesn't. I crabbed at at least three people about posting when they haven't read, I linked this thread to an earlier thread that I was participating in because other people were like, yes, it's annoying to me, too, and I said, yeah, I've been venting about it on the thread I created today, here it is.

I think the real issue is, is that some people think that a thread is simply a place to reply to the OP, and some see it as an organic whole that grows and matures based on the people who participate in it.

Like, I like looking someone in the eyes when I talk to them. I don't enjoy talking to a pair of eyeballs sitting on the table.

I think the same thing applies to a thread-if it's a monster thread, then there's a reason for it that has far outgrown just the OP's original question.

To pretend all those other responses don't even exist is the same as just seeing the eyeballs and disregarding the rest of the body.

I guess if you think the OP is just talking to you and all the rest of the voices on the thread mean nothing, then, ok, but I'll still think you're missing the big picture.

....as far as begging the Tag Fairy goes, I'm fairly sure I pissed him/her off at some point (what me shocker!), as well, so it was definitely a secondary wish/joke.

Honestly, whether or not someone has read it all or not, doesn't really matter to me. I have enough other things to worry about. I don't think I've read much on the dis that angers me, but I understand when others get mad about stuff. I'm more of a go with the flow kinda person. Live and let live.

Um, I kind of find it sad that in this day-and-age when there are so many bad, sad, terrible things going on in the world, that people have to invent more and more things to be upset about.

Why can't we all just get along? There are LOTS of things others do that "get" to me, but I'm sure there are things I do tha GET to other people; I consider it a fair exchange.

One final thought, while I appreciate your opinion, I don't agree with it. You can't dictate how, when or why someone is posting. It's just not feasible.

Yeah, I apologize for that, I got a little cranky yesterday, stressful day at work, breaking in a new person later that afternoon. I only work part time so I have a lot of time (especially when I'm on a no buy month and my favorite sport of shopping is off the table) to post silly threads like this, but if I had to work 60 hrs a week, then I (and this is just me) would make sure that the time I did have on the Dis was effortful. But mostly, I was just in a really irritable mood yesterday. My DH is very glad I picked on Dis'ers instead of him.

I STILL stand by my original assertion that's it's WAY annoying to read a post that went way off into left field or repeats because they never read the thread, but I certainly could have said it in a nicer way.

I hate work, some days...

Well let me tell you one more thing because I quit this whole board because of insensitve people exactly like you....I found it not only cranky but quite rude and I cannot apoligize enough for not taking hours to read each and every thread, after I had read the original post that this whole thing came from I went to bed, I thought about the pet food banks and a few other things, I thought I could have been some help to the poster, and believe me many of the things may have been posted before but if just ONE thing that I mentioned wasn't and it could be of help to someone then I am glad I could help.
Personally I feel like you do not believe that I am putting in 60 hour weeks, it has been mandatory of us since January, we laid off over 100 people and most of the rest of us are picking up the slack, do I wish that they would just hire all those back....yes! but I have no control over that and honestly the extra cash has helped this single person out who is trying to make a mortgage payment etc. etc. I also try to take a day for someone else who is under mandatory OT so they can have time with their families since the only ones I have are cats!
We work 12 hour days and unlike you I cannot "Dis" from my job....when I get home I leave the house at 6am and return at 8pm I used to come here to read intersting topics and to give others info that I may find helpful....but alas I do not have time to read over 24 pages at any given time. Sounds like if you have all that time because you only work part time then perhaps you should find something more meaningful in your day to help people other than tearing apart someone you do not even know just because you had to read each and every post, you could have scanned over stuff that was repeated because on each and every thread on this board there are plenty of repeats but I do not take the time from my day to say "hey that has already been mentioned"!
So carry on with your life and I so sorry again I caused you such aggrevation, it must be great being so wonderful and perfect
