I bought a pair of leather clogs that were in great condition at a garage sale but when I got them home I noticed that they STINK like smelly feet. Blech.

Is there any way to get the stinky smell out of the shoes?

Try putting a dryer sheet like bounce in them. Febreeze might help too. Good luck.

Other people's funk...blech!!! Toss em'.

I have no problem with second hand but if something has an odor please er on the side of caution.

The leather will never release the smell. You might be able to hide it for a bit but all it will take is one hot day and you'll be back to square one. Good luck.

My DH swears that if you put newspaper in them for a few days, the smell will go away. He does it all the time.

Good luck.

The smell is from bacteria that's enjoying a luxurious life in the leather. You'll never get out the smell, or the or the bacteria. Toss them, and hope you don't get a nice nail fungus if you've tried them on with bare feet. Blech!

Eeeeeeewwww. Nope I haven't tried them on at all yet. They look to be in perfect shape and they are pricey shoes (Dansko) that I got for cheapo (now I know why). :sad2:

I wonder if they just got wet or something because looking at the soles they have hardly been worn if at all. Can you not somehow wash or disinfect leather shoes? :confused3

Unfortunately you cannot disinfect or thoroughly clean leather - surface cleaning only (my great uncle was a leathersmith, of all things, and my great aunt was a smoker, and he always complained about how she ruined all her leather coats with cigarette smell). Because it's a natural material and porous, anything you use to break down the stink will destroy the leather. Sorry!

Well darn! Thanks for the info though. I'm really bummed because I thought I had found a great deal.
