Is there any way to fix a trampoline net?

Well, I think the title pretty much says it...our trampoline net has been ripped. It started really little, but is getting bigger and I wondered if anyone has successfully repaired their net?

Thanks!

I was at a party a couple weeks ago where the kids were playing on a trampoline. Somehow a small hole started. One kid thought it was funny and stuck his hand through it (ripping it even more) to wave to his mom. She told him to stop, but didn't remove him from the trampoline. Then he stuck his head through, and eventually climbed all the way out through the hole, as I watched it split all the way open! Still, his mom said nothing. :scared1: The hostess did make all the kids get off, partly because it was not safe, partly because to keep that brat from doing any more damage. :rotfl2:

Anyway, another guest told my friend that he had just stitched up a hole in their net using fishing line. I haven't asked her if she tried it yet, but it seemed reasonable. :thumbsup2

Our net has a few small holes in it. I plan to repair it with patches of nylon mesh, once the season ends. We don't have idiots putting their hands through it, so the holes won't be getting bigger before November.

P.S. I would have been royally po'd if someone's kid was deliberately ripping the net.

Are you talking about the surface that you jump on or the net surounding?

Sure, you repair it the same way that you would repair any net; with a netting needle and line. Fishermen do it all the time. (And I do mean ALL the time; when I was a kid we repaired my Dad's nets on a daily basis during the season.)

This is a netting needle (it isn't a needle, really; more like a crochet hook, but shaped differently); you can buy them at fishing/boating supply stores, along with netting line on spools.

The three in the center are the easiest style to use, and you would normally use two of them at a time, the way that you would knitting needles. Note the way that the line is wrapped around the third needle; that makes it possible to keep knotting continuously in order to repair a large tear or create a new section of net.

There are plenty of videos on YouTube that will show you how to repair a fishing net. After about 30 minutes of practice it's really very easy.

Thank you guys very much! I'm going to try it - DH thinks I'm crazy, but it can't hurt to try!

I just order a new one off the internet, it costs about $60 and then it's OK, the only time we've had one last less than a couple of years at least was when the dog got on the trampoline and chewed on it...:headache:
