Is there any way to find out where you are on a waitlist?

Just out of pure neurosis and impatience? :teeth:

My understanding is that MS does not give out that information. I've never waitlisted, but have seen others post here that they were not informed.

Are you talking about a waitlist for a reservation or for more points? :)

For a reservation. If my waitlist comes through, I will be saving a good amount of points so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

MS really can't tell where you are - the waitlist just isn't as simple as we might think. It really isn't a sequential "list" at all.

For example, someone could be waitlisted for June 1 -5. Someone ese might be waitlisted for June 3-7, and someone else just for June 2. Assume they got on the waitlist in the order I listed them.

Now if June 2 - 5 all of a sudden becomes available, the third person gets his waitlist even though there are 2 people ahead of him for that date. MS will not hold available time for you waiting for the rest of your dates to become free.

Now if you imagine all the different combinations of waitlist requests, you can see why you need a computer to figure it all out and why MS can't tell you. And FWIW, for some times of the year for some room types & views, even being first on the waitlist doesn't mean you'll get it.

Hope your waitlist comes through soon!

Best wishes -

MS usually won't suggest a wait list position, because it will depend on how you are waitlisted.

If you are waitlisted for a BCV 1BR stay from 11/06- 11/11 you may actually be lower on the list for some of those dates that someone who got on the list today- even if you've been on the list for a month. DVC won't save individual dates to complete a multi-day reservation. They may give you first opportunity to accept that reservation if/when all days become available at once but otherwise, those who are on the automatic-daily waitlist will have better success getting their individual days. If 11/08 becomes available today, the auto/daily member will get that date. If 11/10 becomes available tomorrow, the auto/daily member will get that also ...
If someone cancels a reservation for 11/06-11/11 today, you would likely get that reservation, it you were first on the list and were available when they tried to call you on the phone- otherwise, it would go to someone who indicated they will automatically accept the dates.

Bottom line is , MS won't let you know where you stand on the list because there are several variables that affect the answer. There have been times, however, when MS actually closed the waitlist for certain dates because they knew there were more already on the list that likely cancellations based on past history.

The waitlist does work, but it might help to allow MS to grab each day individually as they become available. You might end up with a middle date where you'd need to move though- so that is the risk.

Good luck!

Doc and Carol, those were both very good discriptions of what happens with a waitlist. I have never had to use one, and hope I never do have to, but now I understand fully how it works. Thanks!
