Are there any frequent drivers who have any secret ways around Atlanta? Our quickest route from Arkansas involves going through Birmingham and Atlanta. Birmingham isn't so bad, but Atlanta is always torture. We have also driven going through Montgomery and taking Hwy 10 through Tallahassee, but the stoplights and small towns are even worse than the congestion in Atlanta. I just want to keep moving. :)

Google maps show taking US82 from Montgomery, AL to Tifton, GA is 40 miles shorter and 10 minutes longer than taking I20 to Atlanta.

Looks like you can also take GA6 from I20 to I285. That's nearly the identical time as going to downtown ATL.

You might want to also state when you're going and what time you'd be in Atlanta.

When we drive from Ky, we just stay on I75 south through Atlanta and use the HOV lane.

US82 goes through a lot of small towns and I usually avoided it when I had to drive from Birmingham to Jacksonville, FL. I found it it easier and faster to drive through on I20 to I75 instead of using 285 around as it's usually a massive mess. Also, you have more gas stations, fast food, and restaurants off of the interstates.

I'd just go to Google Maps and drag the route until you're sufficiently away from Atlanta and satisfied. It should be easy.
