My DH has a meeting in Orlando on February 8-12. His plane ticket, meeting fee, food and hotel were supposed to be reimbursed. However, at a meeting today, all travel funds have been suspened. The airfare is not refundable and the meeting fee is not refundable, so we are still going to go.

We did consider using points, but only today. When I called there is no availability at any resort. Do you think there is any chance at all of someone cancelling out in the next 2 weeks? Is it worth even waitlisting? SSR is resort of choice so he can just walk to meeting.

There is always the chance someone will cancel.

We had to cancel our Thanksgiving trip 4 days before leaving because my DD14 was in the hospital. Some lucky family ended up with a 2BR at SSR for the entire Thanksgiving week. Who would have thought?

On a side note, we did reschedule & check-in this Sunday!! :dance3:

I hope it works out for you.

Go on the waiting list. they may say there are no rooms but believe me they are not sold out. we went that week last year and it was dead deadead. They tell you it is booked up the their capacity for the staff needed for the rooms. we could not beleive we had to go on a waitlist and when we got there the place (ssr) was empty. there was a day we had the grandstand pool to ourselves(grant it it was Feb) we did have to move to old key west for two nights but gladly did that to go. pixie dust and good luck. ps i have had goood luck calling saturday mornings and getting what i need close to the date.

Yes, go for the waitlist........but still call, like, every day every few hours!

You will prob. get it!

Get wait-listed. You will remain wait-listed up until 7 days before check-in date you want and then from that point on you would need to call each day to check availability. It's worth a try ::yes:: and you won't know unless you give it a try. I do think your dates are maybe more popular that July 4 holiday but when we wanted an extra night in BWV 1 BR standard view on July 4 weekend although we didn't get it while on wait-list at less than 7 days out I called daily then and got it I think three days before so you never know ( & MS had other resorts with availability 3 days out).

Good luck and lots of pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Where is the meeting? Would an off site timeshare serve as well but be cheaper.

We were originally going to stay at Pop for $288. (Great rate). However, now there is no reimbursement. So, we are waitlisted at 4 DVC properties.

I kind of was looking forward to staying at Pop, but since points are already paid for, if waitlist comes through I guess we will just use points.

We also (my DD and I) are going to utilize the EMH, so I don't think I want to stay offsite.

Do you think spending about 45-48 points is dumb compared to spending $288 OOP for trip? Maybe I should cancel waitlist and just stay at Pop. DD5 would love it for the theming.

It's a personal decision but I think both are reasonable. One thing to consider is that you can't deduct the DVC stay on your taxes but likely can the cash stay since it's work related referring to the lodging only. Personally I think the location of the meeting is a major factor. I'm assuming this is not a mandatory meeting for him to attend.
