I've been "out" of the DVC-thing for a while - rules, regulations, etc. Looks like lots have changed - especially since 1/1/08.

Is there an advantage to owning one large contract at "Resort A" and a smaller contract at "Resort B"?

My wife and I are considering a small add-on - 25-50 points. We currently have 300 points at SSR. Is there any value/advantage in purchasing a 25-50 point contract at another resort (BWV, OKW, etc) or would we be better off just adding the points to our existing SSR contract?

Will a 25 point contract at BWV and our 300 points at SSR give us 11-month windows at both resorts, or just SSR because that is where the lion's share of our points exist? (Assume, for simplicities’ sake, that both contracts are in the same use year...)

Your 25 - 50 point contract will have home resort advantage at their resort only. Do you want a studio at VWL for a December trip, for instance. A small VWL will allow you to book that 11 months out. You can bank and borrow points from that small contract to make it work for you.

At 7 months all of your points can be collectively used wherever you can get a ressie.

PS. I see that you like BWV. The small contract there will let you book something using those points at F&W, for instance. If you add on from Disney, you will automatically get the same UY that you already have.

Thanks for the reply!

So, 11-months out, can I transfer my 300 SSR points into my 25-point BWV contract and book a room at BWV?

Or, am I reading your post incorrectly???

Perhaps at the 11-month window, I can only book "25-points worth of reservations" at BWV because that is all I have there.... My 300 SSR points can't be combined and used at BWV until the 7-month window.

exactly.

or you could use banking/borrowing to book 75 pts at BWV 11 months out every third year...even if it's only for a very short vacation at BWV.

No.

Your 300 SSR points can be used at SSR 11 months out.
Your 25 BWV points can be used at BWV 11 months out.
Or all 325 points can be used anywhere at 7 months out.

However, with banking and borrowing, your 25 BWV points could get you a 75 points reservation at BWV 11 months out every 3rd year for example. Or a 50 point BWV reservation 11 months out every other year.

The only real advantage is the 11-mo home resort priority period booking advantage, which you get to use only with the points you actually own at any particular resort.

That "only" real advantage of booking at 11 months is exactly how we ended up with 150 to 200 points at three different resorts! And why Im going at least twice each year and sometimes 3 times each year to WDW...

Same here!!

25-50 points don't mean a lot on a year by year basis, but you can bank/borrow every 3 years with those points to stay somewhere in the 11-month window. We bought 100 points at AKV for that very purpose, except with 100 points we're every other year.

I literally just got off the phone with one of the resale companies (I won't mention any names here!) and while I explained that I wanted to do a small BCV add-on (~50 points - we already own at SSR), she was trying to convince me that I should just do an add-on at SSR because it would be too "confusing/a pain" to coordinate the various booking windows. I did explain that we were planning on banking and borrowing with the small BCV contract but she was insistent that this would not be a good idea. Hmmmm....maybe this had something to do with the fact that she only had 50-point SSR contracts for sale and not BCV.......;)
