Something that's not a cartoon? Something that's to scale? Something that's somewhat detailed?

Why is this so hard to find?

Thanks for the replies, but I was looking for a "real" map of the park, to scale. The Disney-issued "cartoon" maps in their park guides aren't to scale and don't have the show buildings included either. This one is the closest I can find, but it's horribly outdated:

Hmmm... well, what you call the "cartoon" maps are what Disney's official maps look like. The one that readytogotodisney provided shows you the show buildings that you mentioned.

What exactly are you trying to learn about with this map? Maybe that will help someone who may have a link to such a map assist you better.

I just want to see an accurate map of the park, to scale. The maps at Touring Plans are fairly accurate with regards to building placement, but there are still some big inaccuracies.

The satellite images are great, but walkways tend to be obscured by trees in those.

I mentioned this thread to my boyfriend. He's not a cartographer, but he is a mathematician and he loves scale models. He theorized that there may be a lack of scale park maps because unlike WDW, Disneyland is so compact, and a scale map wouldn't be as practical or visually appealing as the official park maps. I know this doesn't answer your question, but it may help you to understand why it's so difficult to find a more accurate representation of the park.

At any rate, good luck on your quest! :thumbsup2

I would be surprised if there is one. There really isn't a huge need to have a map that is to scale for a theme park visitor.

Most people are just interested in a map of a theme park to help them get around, locate what's where, and perhaps acclimate themselves before a trip. A map to scale isn't really necessary for a theme park.

Thanks. I think the map I posted above "looks" pretty accurate (since it looks very similar to the satellite images of the park), so maybe a scale map wouldn't be so unappealing. Get that cartographer boyfriend on it right now. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong,,,but wouldn't a map of Disneyland to scale cover about 64 acres? :rolleyes1

Partially wrong, since I didn't specify which scale. [/pedantic]

Only if the scale was 1:1. :) I would recommend a 2:1 scale then the map would only take 16 acres.

See? Someone understands. Even if that someone is also a wisea#%. :)

How about going to Google Maps and entering DisneyLand as your destination?

Thanks, but that provides a satellite image.

Ummm, OK. [scratching head] I guess I don't understand what more you want. You know you can turn-off the satellite image and be left with just the roads, paths and waterways, don't you?

It's okay; I get you George. I can't help you, but I get you.:)

The Disneyland cartoon map is inaccurate (it even shows Donald's boat in the tress on the Northeastern backside of IASW), and satellite imaging has low resolution/zoom and doesn't show what's blocked by structures or obstacles. I was also looking for a better map to help in planning because I don't know where all the walkways, shortcuts, line entrances, etc. are by heart. Someday...

Ummm, I'm not a dope. I understand what "to scale" means, I just don't understand WHY it's necessary and the details would probably make it almost impossible to create, but that's why I have asked why something so exact would be needed. Maybe there is something similar that could provide you with the answers you are seeking... if we knew the questions. I know of no map that is "to scale" 10,000:1 or otherwise of Disneyland.

I DO know where you can find a version of a European mountain in 1/100th scale.:wizard: (See, I can even use it in a sentence. :goodvibes)

Sure, and that gives a pretty accurate image, but not all the buildings are represented and all the walkways are the same width.

Who'da thunk! :)

Why is it needed? I like to look at and study maps. Ones that are accurate.

I guess it dates back to my days as a kid where I'd stare at a WDW Magic Kingdom map and see the facade of the Haunted Mansion drawn on it with a forest of trees behind it and think to myself, "That whole attraction can't possibly fit in that building. Where's the rest of it?" (And yes, I've found the floorplan since then.)

I understand your need to know, but even if you get an accurate satellite representation (without trees), you're still not going to see all the walkways. For example, there's that nice little shortcut between Zocalo and Plaza Gardens that from above just appears to be part of the Zocalo building. Unless you get something from a cast member, I think the best you'll be able to get is the satellite image (whether satellite or map view) that you'll have to edit.
