Is there a way to subscribe without posting?

Just wondered if there was a way to subscribe to a thread without posting to it. Most of us are guilty of subscribing to a thread so we can get updates on what people are saying. T do it all the time for threads I am intrested in. However, this can clutter up the thread and make it harder to find information. Is there a way to subscribe to a thread without posting to it?

I've done it by clicking on Thread tools and selecting subscribe to thread.
