Is there a way to not have the white background not show up?

I have been lurking around on this board and have to say I am quite impressed with all of your artistic abilities. There are some magnificant disigns here. Ok, not that I am done sucking up and I do have a question
I love some of the designs but really would like to not have the "retangle" look, I guess I like to more blended look or rounded look. Besides the tedious job of cutting, and cutting, and cutting your transfer is there any way to not have that white show up?

If your design has a white background - the only way to have it print clear is to use light transfers. But remember that all white areas of the design will be clear. So if you put the design on a white shirt, it will be perfect - but if you put it on a colored shirt, all white areas (ex/Mickey's eyes) will be the color of the shirt. I hope this helps!

I cut mine out. Yes...it was tedious but I think it was worth it.

I asked this on another thread. How much color is required for the light transfers to pick it up. How off white do you have to go for it to print on the light transfer??

In the various image software, you can change white (255,255,255) by one number (254,254,254) and it will still look white. Would that transfer on the light transfer paper?

I do not know how sensitive a printer is regarding this. You could do a test on a white sheet of paper. If you pick some shades and print to a white sheet of paper - you should be able to tell if the printer is actually printing that color. If it prints the actual color, it should print to a light transfer the same way. I have never experimented with this. In fact, I only use dark transfers. I am only trying to brainstorm some possibilities. I hope this helps!

That does. I'm new to even reading these threads and to the idea of iron-on transfers. But my brain is already working on designs for an upcoming June trip. If it was a few shirts, I wouldn't mind cutting out the white I don't want, but its for a group of 20, so cutting the white out would get tedious very fast.

I guess I should just go buy some transfer paper and try some tests!

Thanks, I went ahead and used the light transfer on a bright yellow shirt and the girls loved it. Considering we leave tomorrow I was pushing it to get them done. I will have to try the other ideas when we get back for the next trip. Let me know how the color munipulation works.

I didn't want the box either. There are some great designs that are rounded which I think worked great on T-shirts and they weren't hard to cut out. I just posted pics on the Finished T-shirt thread w/2 of the round designs. Both of those are from Natalie (screen name Donatalie"). Those were the easiest to cut. Of course you could try to enlist some help in the cutting department from some in your group. I did a few a day for 3 days and did 15 shirts. The cutting took maybe 2 minutes per transfer or less.

It is my understanding that the "white" areas of light transfers are actually clear. This is why they pick up the color of the shirt, it shows through. The color of the shirt will also affect the colored areas of the transfer as they are translucent. A bright yellow shirt will turn blue areas green.

Most printers don't print white, they get the white from the color of the paper.
