Is there a sign up for the new hidden/private forum or are we just in the waiting game at the moment?

I see no reason why we shouldn't be able to discuss religion and politics in a calm, mature manner but in a private forum so it doesn't spill over into the more innocent threads. Some of us, indeed, don't want anything to do with it - and that's fine too.

The private function is primarily to keep it from being index by search engines so controversial and debate topics stay within the community.

That was my impression as well.

No one is going to change their mind on a topic like politics that has gotten SO controversial. The zombies already have their mind made up as well, so I seriously doubt anything that a sane/rational/intelligent/well-informed person is going to say will change their mind either.

It is somewhat like conspiracy theories. IF you believe that nonsense, I seriously doubt you will listen to reason either.....................LOL.

I still just like the fact that we can put a thread on ignore. I haven't yet but it's a nice option for possibly people who get triggered just looking at a thread's title and the temptation to enter that thread.
I actually hate where they've put the button. Aside from my opinion on whether such a thing is even necessary, where it's placed has caused me to accidentally hit it while trying to "Jump to New", a whole bunch of times. Irksome.

Sane rational reasonably intelligent (lol) people need a place to be able to reason together. Not being able to discuss the legitimate concerns of the day is infantilizing. Some days I'm not sure where I land on that continuum and listening to people from a wide spectrum of experiences helps me shape an opinion.

Why the confusion? Who’s to decide what will constitute ‘getting out of hand’, or an outright ‘ban’? We’ve been told there won’t be much moderation. We’ve been told that almost any type of discussion goes, and that thin skinners need not apply. We’ve seen and heard biases (not just here, necessarily) that favor certain viewpoints and want to shut down others. So where does it end to the point that someone would be banned? I suppose there will be some guidelines about behavior, which will be good, and that will probably be the line to be crossed if a banning were to take place. Hopefully. And not personal beliefs. So I think it could potentially be a slippery slope depending on what people get infractions for. We‘ll see!

There is a difference to me in having an adult conversation with people dealing in facts. The wacko up is down and the sky isn't blue crowd are just talking nonsense and not worth my time.

Then by all means, please feel free not to engage with them. But don't report them and hope to get them banned for having different ideas than you do.

I have never reported anyone here for having different ideas then mine, not sure what you are implying.

Most people on the board don't fall into the "wacko" category IMO.
I agree. But what I do see is that we'll have like 95% rational people posting and then there will be one or two that come in to say something really off-the-wall or SOOO dogmatic that, tbh, it borders on trolling, but then part of the 95% normal crowd loses their sanity over that one person and it then becomes "entertaining." All of us normal people need to learn how to move past that. It's hard though.

The only part of this I don't 100% agree with is the last sentence. Why is it hard to just ignore a post you don't like? None of us owe it to the world to tell it what we know and we're not obligated to set everything and everybody straight. Upthread, @Beezle2 mentioned "infantilizing", and to me, that's what having all these ways built-in to not have to even see something is. Trigger warnings, opt-ins and ignore features to keep everybody in their happy-places. I just don't get it.
