We are going back to WDW in May 2006 and will be bringing along a new baby this time. He/she will be about 8-9 weeks old and we are looking for a way to take him/her into the pool with us without getting wet. Has anyone ever seen any sort of small boat type thing with a sun shade on it? I know they make ones with holes in it for legs to go through, but that won't work for us. We just want to be able to relax and keep cool in the pool together as a family instead of having to take turns going in and out with our son. I guess I started my search too late this year as all the swim stuff is gone and the back to school stuff has replaced it :faint: (poor kids, they just want to rush them back to school, don't they?) Thanks in advance!

Check the "Right Start" catalog, I think I remember seeing some in there.

Or you could go to a pool store. There's a pretty large one called Wind, Surf and Sail over on Hall Rd & Elizabeth Rd (down the street from the Macomb County Hilton (jail!)

Thanks for the links, I'm about to check them out. Kabuki- how's your cruise planning going? This baby decided to be a month later than the minimum cruise age, so we're out this time around. So much for a free cruise for our son, but we'll do it someday!

tkme4ard- that looks like a great product, but I am looking for something that will keep the baby above the water and dry. I think he/she will be too little for the chlorine, and even if that is ok he/she (man, I'm gonna have to do that for 7 more months??? I'll never make it without finding out what it is! :rotfl: )would get cold too fast and we'd end up having to get out of the pool too soon. I wish I knew about it for our son this year though, it would have been perfect!

We bought a little shaded boat but her legs and butt did get wet but the water was out of her face. I think she was 3-4 months when we put her in it but my dd had pretty good head control at 4 weeks. She was one strong newborn. At 1 week checkup she about thrusted herself off the table and dr. said she had some strong legs too. ;)

We always put her in this while swimming and one of us would stay right next to it at all times still though.

We bought it at Walmart I think it was.

We took our dd swimming with us at just 6 weeks she didn't have sensitive skin at all and handled it quite well. Sunscreen however is not recommended until 6 months but I've since heard they are not saying this anymore.

I'd ask the dr. it probably will not harm baby to go in pool.

I have seen some that kinda allow for reclined baby as a friend used one with her 2 month old recently.

no that's not either I'm still looking LOL are the pools chlorinated where your going or salt water?

it looks like the baby floats are for bigger babies/with legs in water. I doubt I would trust anything that they could roll off of if laying in it KWIM? I would either get a sling like that and just hike it way up high or take turns sitting on the side of the pool with the baby.

Well I am not sure but you could try this if you were with it constantly (obviously you will be) the baby would have to just lay flat on its back, but I think that's what you wanted, right? Here it is, 8th one down, no holes :

Hope the link works for you! We are going in May 2006 also, the first week with our three, the third being only 6 months old then. Congratulations!!!

Forgot to add: No shade though!

They are chlorinated. I am basically looking for a boat with a shade. If I could find that I'd be all set! I don't really want the baby to get wet so a sling wouldn't work and sitting it out just wouldn't be fair as we really enjoy spending time as a family. I'm not worried about the baby rolling out or anything, as we would never take our hands off him/her. It would just be easier not to have to physically hold him/her the entire time, and we could go into the deeper water too. Thanks again for your ideas though!

That would be perfect if it had a shade. Anyone have any suggestions for that? I know we can come up with somesort of sunscreen for his/her skin, but nothing to protect those little eyes would be no fun!

Where are you staying? We will be at OKW and a yet to be determined resort. Congratulations to you too!

I have been looking all over for the same thing. We will be there in August with a 3 month old and I don't want her getting wet either. I will chech back to see if anyony has any ideas! ::MinnieMo

For the shade issue...It's hard to tell from the photo, but the boat appears to be deep enough that you could lay that solar veil fabric over the top and it would still be above (not touching) the baby. The solar veil appears light weight enough to allow air through so that he/she doesn't overheat.

When DS was small we used one of those small boats and just propped a small child's umbrella over it. It worked great but they may not allow it, especially if the pool is crowded.
Depending on how handy you are (or want to be! :teeth: ) I don't think it would be too difficult to create a 'tent' over the boat from solarveil. Maybe using some thin PVC pipe in a triangle or U shape? Duct tape maybe if it won't wedge in the boat sides? Not the world's most beautiful float (although they do sell colored duct tape! ) but it doesn't look like there's really a manufactured product to meet all your needs.

I really "am" trying to help and not be snarky I swear :)

okay I found this
http://www.poolrafts.com/750.html

probably not exactly what you were looking for LOL

http://www.poolrafts.com/852.html this would work!

Getting close! I think the first one would be perfect, but it is a bit large (would they even let it in the pool?) The second one would be great, anyone know if you can use a pool as a float, or will it not be stable enough? BTW- where are you finding all these, I can't seem to find anything anywhere...

Try this. Get a Sassy inflatable baby bathtub (it has rather high sides) and a spring-fold car windshield sunshade (regular size, not a jumbo; and I'd go with cloth, for airflow). You should be able to tent the shade by folding it in the center and have it stay up by putting the side edges into the tub; baby can lie on a folded beach towel inside. That tub has some inflation in the floor, too, so it should make a good boat.

This does double-duty; you can also bathe baby in it on the bathroom floor.

It goes without saying that you would need to keep a hand on, and an eagle eye on jr. in something like this; you would need to guard against it tipping and getting any water at all inside. I would also be super-careful about the possibility of smothering; the baby has to be cushioned in in such a way as to be sure he could not roll with his face against the vinyl tub wall.

Obviously, you would probably want to test it at home first. I'd buy a regular inflatable kiddy pool now, that you could use to float this in to test it.

I wonder if you could modify the kind with leg holes. Use duct tape or something to cover the holes, taping from both the top and the bottom to cover the sticky sides. We had this one http://www.hometownstores.com/detai...are&ovcrn="Intex" Deluxe Baby Float&ovtac=CMP when my 2yo was a baby, but we always let her legs hang in the water. If you can cover up the leg holes, it would probably be more stable than something with no sides to hold him in.

Good luck!
