Our WDW trip next month will be our families fifth in the past four years and every time I speak with a CM I ask if there is a PIN code attached to my name, as I have learned to do by reading in some of the threads here, however, each time I ask the CM has no idea what I'm talking about. Is there a secret handshake or special password that I'm missing here? A little more understanding on PIN codes would be greatly appreciated. :)

There are suggestions some swear by. But I have tried them all and never gotten a PIN code. I think the first thing you're doing wrong is going too often. :p They have figured out they have you already.

We've been going for a couple of decades, and we've never gotten a PIN code.

Couldn't tell you what criteria the use to select recipients, but clearly we never met it!

We've been onsite at WDW since Dixie Landings opened early 1990s, and we never received a PIN code, either. For 10 of those years we were Florida residents, now out of state. I don't know what their criteria is, maybe people who never use any discount? (We try to use discount codes every trip.) People who only return after 2-3 years or later? I have no guess.

I've never gotten a Pin code. The one time that I did, (I got something in the mail that said, "a special offer for the xyz family!" with a somewhat unique booking url, and "mention this offer") I called Disney to inquire about it, I was told it wasn't a Pin. At least the CM knew what a pin was and knew what I was talking about. If you get a CM that has no clue, call back to get another one. They're not always the best trained and most informed.

It's random. There are a number of things you can do to increase your chances of getting one, mainly signing up for things on disney world sites, but you aren't guaranteed a PIN.

I used to get PIN codes all the time, at least 3 times per year, for a few years. I haven't gotten one since 2011 though. Maybe they will start coming again, but I visit multiple times per year so they probably know they have me suckered me in anyway.

We have not gotten a PIN CODE in 6 years. And we have gone two times a year for the past 7 years! However, my father (who recently passed) used to get them all the time and you couldn't pay him to go to Disney!

Do you see the pattern? They wont give you a discount if they know you're going to come anyway.

I received a pin code after I stayed at a Value resort .....after that we stayed at the Poly and Aulani and never received one again

And that isn't true either. We're going for our 24th straight trip and I got a pin a month ago. Some years I get several and some years none.

It's all marketing. Disney marketing sets the criteria for a promotion and if your profile meets the criteria you get a pin otherwise not. Since only Disney marketing knows the criteria there is nothing you can do to increase your odds.

I also agree that it isn't based on how often you go. I have known people who went multiple times a year and regularly received pin codes. We are only once-a-year, if that people, and we've never received one. Not by me calling and asking, not by snail mail and not by email. I've been on the Disney website many times planning trips out, I've requested the dvd yearly and tried all the tricks people mention. There just seems to be some criteria Disney is using to target people and we don't fall into that market :confused3

We've been getting pin codes once or twice a year lately and I suspect I know what might be helping us. We tend to stay onsite and then offsite for a couple of years after that. I think that Disney might try to lure people back when they don't stay each time.

I'm probably wrong though so who knows why. We went for several years without getting one and stayed offsite during that time too.

Let's see... we are AP holders, visit several times a year, stay on property, usually at Pop, have never signed up for anything on Disney site. Used our PIN last trip in January.

We went 9 years in a row, always stayed deluxe, always with a discount, ordered a few planning guides (WDW and DCL), signed up for a few sweepstakes, took a few in-the-park surveys, and have gotten 2-3 PIN codes every year for the past 3-4 years. It seems to me that we started getting them after we took the surveys. Probably just a coincidence, but maybe? We have used only a couple of them, because we usually go in September and free dining is usually the better deal.

Didn't get a pin code for many years then suddenly we got one three years in a row. The last two years we haven't gotten anything. In all that time our visit frequency has been pretty consistent. So :confused3

Several years ago I booked a reservation for my cousin and I used my email address. It was the only time they have gone and Disney has been sending me pins several times a year to my email with her last name so I know it is her account generating the pins. We are DVC members and go every year with DVC and also stay cash at times and I personally have never gotten one.

I signed up for a Disney account, played with resort options for my planned vacation dates, spoke several times to their online chat, and requested a planning DVD. Within a few days of doing all that (which was itself within a day or two), I received a pin code for up to 30% off hotel stays. Military discount is better so I can't utilize it, but the email with the pin specifically referenced the general time I had specified I wanted to go.
