Keflex question:

This is the first time I've taken this med. I have had a hanging-on cough since a virus/bronchitis back in April. Doc thinks it is post-viral cough but gave me a prescription for Keflex when I saw him a month ago. He said if "things turned green" to go ahead and fill the prescription.

Well, this weekend things turned green when I coughed up.

So, I started the Keflex. I basically think I'm fine but I have fairly significant fatigue/tiredness today. At first, I just thought I was tired, but now I can't seem to shake it. Even laid down for several hours (didn't go to work either). I looked at the prescription insert and it said to "report unusual fatigue/tiredness to your doctor/pharmacist." Well, I've got a message into them but I may not even hear back until tomorrow.

Is this a side effect that is a big deal or something common?

Thanks!

Edited to add: Believe it or not, I think I'm getting *another* cold on top of whatever it is I have. Un-freakin-believable. Nose and sinuses are all stuffed up today. Still on Keflex. Very confused. Coincidence or medication?

DH is a pharmacist, but at work right now..I have taken Keflex many times with no fatigue....my fatigue is usually associated with the cold or flu. I'd think that's what it is.

Also try to call the pharmacy again and get a real person and say you need to speak to a pharmacist immediately regarding possible side effect of a medicine you had filled there. The pharmacist *should* speak to you right away.

Seriously, they mean unusual fatigue. You were able to keep it together for a lengthy post on the internet, so, my guess you are more probably just fatigued for being sick (again).

Do you have allergies? We are seeing alot of colds with superimposed allergies with some sinus infections.

Depending on the type of cough you had, post nasal drip (from allergies) can cause a significant persistant cough, and clearly could lead to infection.

By the way, as a nurse, it drives me nuts that an MD would give a prescription for an antibiotic that was meant to be fillable well after the fact (barring some unusual medical circumstances). Leaving the decison to start an antibiotic to a layperson is dangerous. We are facing an antibiotic/ resistant bacteria crisis ---- one that seriously may make all antibiotics obsolete. This has been caused partially by overprescription of antibiotics.

Keflex is not the antibiotic of choice for uppper respiratory. It's usually used for tissue infections, not respiratory.
