I tried to call today with 1-800-828-0228 and it is no longer active. Is there a new 1-800 number to call?

So, keep trying - it seems now that they don't have enough incoming lines. Keep trying!:surfweb:

The toll-free numbers were never intended for use by the general public; afaik, any such lines are intended for use by Travel Professionals.

Not a criticism, merely a likely explanation for the lack of incoming lines. Disney has already cancelled one toll-free number, due to overuse (or abuse?) by the general public.

I thought the "abuse" by the general public was calling to get trivia answers and stuff like that, not making ressies. ?? Read that on another thread here, LOL

I used the 877 number listed above to make my ADR's for my August trip and today to make my ressie for my October trip. The options given when I called were the same as when I call the 407 number.

I find it interesting that the majority of hotel chains, airlines, ect...all have toll free numbers for their customers to use, and yet this is considered "abusive" that Disney guests would prefer a toll free number.

1) Other hotels don't have the problems WDW has.
2) You call a hotel and make a ressie for a date or dates.
3) When you call WDW, you take a lot of time
. . . inquiring about different hotels
. . . inquiring about different rooms and views
. . . inquiring about ADR's
. . . changing ADR's (sometimes several times)
. . . inquiring about various ticket options
4) Overall, it is too costly to have toll-free for WDW.

Disney doesn't need to provide toll-free reservation numbers to potential Guests. We'll book anyway (something to do with being the number one travel destination in the country, combined with an excellent marketing plan :), among other factors.

They never have, but now, with the proliferation of cell phones (many/most/all with no long-distance charges), and many/most landline customers having plans that include long distance calls - honestly, check your phone service - plus the Internet, there's really NO need for Disney to offer, and pay for, toll-free lines.

Well,as someone who doesn't have a cell phone and whose land line phone doesn't have an unlimited long-distance feature,I'm glad that I know the toll-free number for Disney!!

Or another one................?????????
The new one was now taken away too!

Yeah, that wasn't a "new" number.

All the toll-free numbers Disney has/had are intended for use by Travel Professionals.

As they become aware of their use by the general public, they're shutting down those lines.

That stinks! My Mom does all our ADRs and such and she can't get her cell phone to keep a signal in her house!

The days of a free number might be gone...............................

There is no excuse for them not having a toll free number. No other company could get away with it but becase it's Disney then it's ok. Just add that to the $31 dollar stroller rental or the outrageous price to eat at CRT etc...

The Magic is getting harder and harder to afford.

As the Number One travel destination in the country, if not the world, Disney's marketing is so effective that they don't NEED to offer the additional incentive of paying for us to call them. Plus, overuse/abuse of the never-intended-for-general-use toll-free numbers inconveniences the parties - Travel Professionals and Disney - for whom these lines are intended.

There are alternatives:
Cellphones with free night/weekend calling
Add - if one doesn't already have it - long distance service to landlines for minimal cost (and cancel it after your trip)
Book online
Vonage
Use a Travel Professional such as Dreams Unlimited and let them do all the work and make all the calls.

It's inaccurate to say no other company could get away with it. There are thousands of businesses that exist that do not have a toll free number.

Okay, which travel agency do you work for?

I don't work for, own, or have any connection to any travel service provider, including but not limited to travel agencies, hotels, airlines, travel websites, restaurants, soap/shampoo bottlers, construction... nor do I have any relatives or friends who work in or are associated with any of the above industries.

To the best of my knowledge, I earn no income from investments in any of the above, or related, industries.

I have to pay for my own long distance calls. I do it by paying a minimal amount for unlimited long-distance service on my landline.

The use of Dreams Unlimited in my list of alternative recommendations is due SOLELY to that company being a sponsor of the DISBoards (to which I also have absolutely no connection, except use).
