Is there a need to get a fastpass for TSMM anymore?

Im going in october and im playing on hitting DHS at around 1030...i was originally going to get a fastpass for toy story and standby/hope for a 4th fastpass for RNR. Do i still need to do that or will the wait be reasonable at 1030 for toy story where i can use my tier one on RNR?

I think it'll be a toss up between the two. I think they'll have about the same wait time.

You could always do single rider for RnR but imo the single rider line for RnR doesn't move much quicker than regular standby.

It's possible the current, historically low TSMM waits (40 min mid day in "busy" summer) are mostly due to low FP+ allocations since the 3rd track went online.

By October, they might increase FP+... Or they might not run the 3rd track for "lower" crowd levels. Either activity could inflate standby times.

We were at HS on 6/17....the day they opened the new Star Wars Fireworks show (ie pretty crowded day). We had no problems getting a same day FP for TSM for early evening (430 ish). Also, I never saw the standby line read longer than 40 minutes. But we did have trouble getting RNR FP+. We arrived about 9am and they were already gone for the day. That line was always 60+. Eventually I was able to get one for 8pm by checking constantly. YMMV on your trip, but I'd say RNR first, TSM after and/or ride early morning or before closing in the standby.

i'd get the FP for RnR.
a couple days ago the wait was 110 for at small portion of the day, and yesterday it was 60+ (correct me if i'm wrong)

We couldn't decide what to do when we were there in late June. What we ended up doing was getting a FP for TSMM for 10:30-11:30 (along with ToT from 9:30-10:30 and Star Tours from 11:30-12:30). We were there at rope drop and did RnR standby at that time. When we were finished with that (at about 9:20) we looked at the Lines app to see what the s/b wait was for TSMM (we like to ride multiple times) and was 15 minutes. We headed over there and were on the ride in 10 minutes. After using all of our FPs for the day, we were able to schedule 2 additional FPs for TSMM later that afternoon and evening (we were a party of 8). I do know they were running all 3 tracks that day.

Had we known we would be able to get additional same-day FPs that day, we probably would have changed our initial FP for TSMM to RnR and slept in that morning.

my problem is im not getting there until 1030 so thats what time i would be getting on TSMM or RNR or whatever my first ride it...i think im leaning towards a RNR fastpass now but i am not sure

Thanks for asking this question, after reading this I decided to switch our TSM for a RR FP

One thing though, RNR tends to break down; whereas, I have never seen TSMM break down. It doesn't mean TSMM doesn't break down; I have just never seen it. I don't know how to factor this into the equation, but I thought I would just muddy the water more for everyone:)

And a large chunk of RnRC queue is outside vs TSMM

October can still be very very warm.

Let me clarify a little. We got there at 9am because my friend has 2 children who wanted to sign up for Jedi training. I went to the kiosk to get us FP. We had 3 FP's booked in advance...including one for TSM because her daughter is under 48". We used a 2nd set of magic bands for SDFP+, which I planned to get RNR for 4 of our party of 6 and get a child swap pass so either myself or my friend could go back later. RNR was all out, so I chose TSM again. I picked 430 to meet our specific plans including a 530 dinner ADR. There were plenty of times to pick from including late morning and early afternoon but we had other FP's, lunch and a Jedi show to figure in. Before our prebooked FP came up, I was able to modify it to RNR at 8pm, but that was luck and constant checking. I told my kids plan on the single rider line....but we ended up getting a FP and with the child swap they got to ride twice.

It's just my single experience and all, but for my next trip I'd pick RNR to prebook and get a TSM when I get there. There is a whole thread explaining SDFP+ in the everything FP thread. I've used it for 2 trips and it made our trips awesome.

I've heard TSMM goes down , but since the 3rd track is entirely seperate from the orginal 2, there is now a very, very small chance all of TSMM will be down at the same time.

Thanks for this info. We have a group of 7 and were planning to make our FP tier 1 for TSM since everyone wants to ride it, and then try for SDFP for RNR for the few who want to ride it or else ride standby. Now I'll have to rethink that. We are going at the end of Oct and also planning to start at the Jedi signup.

It can definitely go down... Granted my experience was 4 years ago... But we waited over 100 minutes in line and then the ride went down and we had to clear the queue... And it was pouring down raining... Again, many summers ago... But just an anecdote.

TSMM broke down one time when we were in line for it. A 40 min. posted wait time ballooned into 70 min.

I would say always use a FP+ for TSMM. It may be a shorter wait than before, but it's still endlessly popular, in a park with too few attractions (until the new lands open).

By the way, if they stop using the third track in the fall, that would be a pretty disgusting move. Until they added the third track, the wait times for this ride have been ridiculous, all year long. They added capacity in order to remedy that, especially at a time when many attractions are shuttered at DHS. So, having remedied a bad situation, they're going to deliberately give us lousy wait times again? If they try to pull that crap, I would raise hell, and complain to Disney.

I find the ride almost a walk on near the start of fantasmic if your not going to do fantasmic. It's still a longer line so if the ride is important, get the fastpass but I always tell friends and family get them for what matters as broken ride for most of the day might turn it into fastpass only when it reopens..

It went down twice when we were there in June.

Yep, this was our experience too. We were there just a week or two ago. One night we were in HS around the time Fantastmic started. We had FP+ for TSMM, and much to our shock when we got there, the standby line was 10 minutes. Since we had FP+, we used it, but we got off and walked right back into the standby line. The only reason it was 10 minutes was because it took nearly that long to walk through the entirely empty queue.

I don't think either ride breaks down all that often, at least in my experience. I've seen TSMM break more than RnR, but neither are frequent.

As for which one to FP+, without a doubt you want to use RnR for your tier one over TSMM. RnR line can and will get much longer than the longest standby for TSMM right now. By 10:30am, RnR is bound to have a 60+ minute wait.
