We're in Ireland but seriously thinking of joining DVC next year. :woohoo: I've done a ton of research and if we go ahead, we'd be buying 2 resale contracts. We would need to be in Orlando to buy DVC through Disney whereas with resale we can purchase from here!

My question is... is there a Members Services office in the U.K. or do you always call the one in the U.S. to make bookings and ask questions about your points etc? I'm just thinking it would be easier for me to phone a U.K. office (if I'm allowed to).

If it exists, what are the opening hours? If it doesn't exist, um, :lmao:

Thanks in advance.

Hi there, how exciting you are thinking of buying DVC!:cheer2: Which resort are you thinking of getting?
There isn't a UK office, but it's not too bad trying to get hold of DVC in Orlando. There is a freephone number from the UK, which I can try and find for you if you like, and you can do lots of things through the member website, such as check your points, plan your vacation. The points charts and caluclators are all on there.
The opening hours are basically 9-5pm weekdays (US time) so you can call them during the evening UK time - which is usually when we would want to call them. They do shut during US bank holidays, which sometimes we don't know about, but we've never been so desperate to talk to someone that we can't wait another day!

We did a tour of DVC when we were in Orlando last year, but then we did our purchase from home, direct with Disney, which is actually what they recommend. So I would have thought you could do it through them if you wanted to do that rather than resale!

Hope this helps!:)

Hi

as birghtspark said there is no UK office but phoning is easy and its a freephone number from here .

we bought direct from disney from home and we are in the UK so you can definately purchase without being out there.

good luck

Thanks so much Brightspark and Ali!!

Unfortunately, Disney are licenced to sell in the U.S., UK and Canada but not here. But that's ok as we still have a way in through resale!! ;) We could go over to WDW, take the tour and then purchase but it would kill me to pay for 2 weeks accommodation for our next trip rather than using points, you know?

Thanks a million folks!!! :)

Hi Deb

We are in Ireland too and we have an AT&T free phone number to use when calling Member Services in the US plus the DVC members Website is getting better all the time so you can use it to bank, borrow points, pay dues and make reservations (although I'd prefer to call MS to do this so I can be sure of getting what I want)

We bought two resale's and also arranged to do an add on when we were in Florida.

Good luck

Hey TinkTatoo

I think I read on another thread that you purchased through the Timeshare Store, is that right? Were you pleased with them? I have been in contact with them through phone and email and Jason there was really helpful and assured me that there would be no hick-ups with any legal aspect of it. That was one of my concerns - that because they're not licenced here there would be some piece of red tape that would make it unfeasible. Although, honestly, I only half know what I'm talking about, if even that. :lmao:

So was it straight-forward? And do you remember if they accepted Visa for the deposit payment?

Thanks a million!! It will be another 6 to 12 months before I can proceed with this. I'm getting excited way too soon. :teeth:

Hi Deb :wave2:

It was very straight forward, we wanted a small contract at OKW with a June use year so I watched their listing daily and the minute I saw the contract we wanted I made an offer. I'd been keeping up with the ROFR thread on the DVC boards so I knew what sort of offer to make. The whole thing took 2-3 months with the biggest delay being the nerve biting wait for ROFR which was a month :scared: The Timeshare Store kept in touch and answered any e-mail questions I had - however stupid.

Disney are not licensed here so they can't sell directly but there is no problems with buying through the Timeshare Store. I've not had a knock on the door from the Guards so I'm assuming it's all legal ::cop: . We have a US Bank account so we were able to use that to pay but I think you'd have to send them a bank draft or wire the funds (I can't remember which) but we wire money to our US account when we need it and it is very straight forward and safe to do.

I guess I was nervous too so that's why we went for a smaller contract but we quickly realized that 78 points wasn't anywhere near enough so we looked on the TSS again and this time we went for another OKW contract but I held out for one with banked points. The second one was for 150 points with 150 banked points and went a smoothly as the first contract.

Lastly we wanted to do a small 32 point add on and arranged to meet our guide when we were in Orlando and bought it there and then, If we want to buy Contemporary DVC we'll have to be in Orlando to do that.

Good luck with finding the right contract and let me know if there's anything else I can help with.

Good Luck
Jakki

PS - hurry up with those trippies :surfweb: :thumbsup2

Jakki,

Thanks a million!!! :flower3: You've really clarified it for me! We've more or less decided to start with a smallish BWV contract (80 points or so) to get us 5 days there 2 years out of every 3. At least that's what I want now, I keep changing my mind. But it's a big decision.

Most likely, I'll be watching the resale listings like a hawk in a few months, ready to pounce and then praying that Disney don't exercise their ROFR. I've been watching that ROFR thread too. It's so helpful!!

Thanks again Jakki - oh as for the 'trippies' I think it'll never end ;) :)

We hummed and hawed (sp) for ages then once we'd done it and stayed DVC we kicked ourself for not doing it sooner  We've stayed at BWV and loved it there, but then we also loved OKW and VWL

A smallish contract is probably the best way to go - once you are a member you can add on through Disney (although you do have to be in Florida to do it). A small contract will get snapped up quite quickly so once you are ready to go keep checking the TSS every day (or even twice a day) and pounce if you see a contract that's right for you.

You do realise that Addon-itis will sneek up and bite you on the bum almost immediatly though

I'll live in hope :rotfl:
