is there a kind of unspoken snobbery between resorts?

Interesting. The only snobbery I have seen is from guests. Sometimes the ones who save for years to stay at a place like GF. Most people I know will take more than one trip a year and base where they stay on a good deal or the place the kids like best from pictures. They stay GF one trip, por another when they plan to work more resort time, and a value for quick trips they plan to be in the parks a lot. They have enjoyed all their trips.

We have stayed at more recently at AKL (cl and reg savanna), Poly, and POR. I have been asked if I am on the dining plan but not asked which hotel. We have never gotten a bad table. We have always gotten any requests if we were willing to wait an extra 5 or 10 mins.

When we checked into POR this time we were told about the 1000 limit but were told since we put the rooms on a credit card they automatically charge the $1000 to your card. There would not decline any purchases nor make you call or stop by the desk. My father asked detailed questions bc we were two rooms but eating as 6 people and they were treating. We went over the limit but were just charged to the card, no calls, no declines, no stopping at the desk. Could it be because some use a debit card or pay with gift cards, cash, etc that causes their card to be declined? Same thing happened on prior trips.

In my case when my KTTK card was declined I had our AMEX charge card on file. It was a glitch that it wasn't automatically renewed.

Perhaps this is simply a DDP related question? We never purchase DDP and no one has ever asked where we are staying when we check in at a restaurant.

I always figured it subtle pressure to make you want to be part of the "club" next time if you were staying offsite this time.

I dont think this would ne unfair. In fact a great idea for the deluxes. If I fly first class I expect a free drink. I am paying for it. It's called product differentiation. We have only stayed in mods, but I would be pssed if i am paying 400 a night at a deluxe and someone at a value has a shorter walk to buses. What am I then paying for?? IMO this is why I feel the deluxes are overpriced, for those prices I would expect more little extra things. You are paying for it.

You're not paying for the transportation from park to park, buses are free for all guests and services provided for POP should be the same provided for Grand Floridian. When you fly first class you are paying for your seat in a different section of the plane with better service which would compare to you paying for your room at a deluxe resort, where you'll get better service than on a value resorts.

I've stayed at the Poly. I've stayed at an All Star. They were both fun, Disney experiences. DH didn't go on the All Star trip, so when I got home, I was ecstatic to tell him how inexpensive it was to stay there and how nice the resort was.

So I guess I don't "get" the people who had to talk themselves down to a value. They're perfectly nice.

And if you miss the Deluxes, just hop the Monorail back over to one, walk the grounds, have a meal and go on your merry way. You just enjoyed the deluxe for free. Woohoo! Go you!

Whenever CMs have asked our resort, we've just taken it as a point of conversation.

Most recently, in Disneyland, a CM in New Orleans Square was asking our nieces where they were staying, but they didn't remember the name, so I told him it was the Carousel Inn, right across the street. He didn't seem familiar because it wasn't a Disney hotel. So he didn't have anything else to say. I didn't take it as snobbery. I took it as he lived locally and had no personal information on the hotels across Harbor Blvd.

There are a lot of hotels at WDW, it seems completely likely that CMs don't have personal knowledge of every single property out there. They're probably looking for a point of conversation, but just don't have knowledge of every property, so the conversation ends.

Does anyone know why they do this? I highly doubt it's some kind of classism. I've been asked at every single restaurant I go to when I check in. Is this a way to confirm that you are who you say you are or something?

When I checked in at Narcoosees and they asked, I told them I was staying at WL, which as you all know is significantly less expensive than GF. I felt no sense of snobbery at all, in fact, the two CMs at the podium asked how we liked it and gushed over how beautiful the lobby was and how they'd like to stay there sometime.

When we check in they ask us if we are on the dining plan and if we are staying on property. We always stay on property so we say yes, and they ask which resort and type something into their system. I assume it has to do with room charging? Idk. We don't always do the dining plan, in fact it's rare these days.

Eta: We never thought it was weird or anything. Just figured it was protocol.

I'm quite sure it is this. On a related note, I swear I get stopped every. single. time. we enter a park to tell them my zip code. I told my husband I must be skewing their data.

Doesn't the 12.5 or 13% resort fee you pay help subsidize the "free" bus? So the more you pay for your room, the more "tax" you pay?

I enjoy my stays at all levels, Pop and POFQ being my favorite Value and Mod. I like the Deluxes for different reasons. I haven't felt any snobbery during my stays, but sometimes I will get a "Nice!" if I'm transferring from Pop to BC from Bell Services. It's often circumstances that take me to Pop vs Deluxe. If I'm traveling with friends and Pop is what they can afford, then I'm likely to stay there.
I've often been asked where I'm staying when I check in for an ADR. Figured they were doing some survey. Never thought about the "tracking you down in case there is an issue" angle for asking, but thought that's interesting.
My personal policy is to not being paying for a trip beyond a month after it ends (time for resort, restaurants, and shopping to clear my credit cards.) So if I can only stay Value, then so be it. If I can do YC for 2 weeks, then woo hoo for me. Oh, and it would probably kill me to pay rack rate, I need to have some discounts working for me!

That's not a resort fee, it's a resort tax. Disney doesn't get to keep that money, it goes to Orange County or Osceola County, depending on where your resort is located, and you'll pay it whether you stay onsite or offsite.

Each resort pays its share of the costs of the transportation system, and it's buried in the room rate, like housekeeping, utilities, landscaping, 'free' internet, etc.

I'm staying a split stay between Poly for 6 nights and AoA for 2. I've had to speak to a CM for both and actually the CM I worked on the AoA reservation with was more energetic and happy than the Poly CM (who was also really nice and happy).

That said, if you are staying value, you are paying approximately 130 a night without a discount. If you are staying at a deluxe, you are paying up to 500 a night an possibly even more. The least you could be paying is 200+ per night. It's kinda like a wedding ring. Wouldn't you expect people to get more excited about a 5,000 dollar ring than the 200 dollar budget ring? It's not to say there's anything wrong with it, but you get what you pay for.

It's not snobbery at all. I think sometimes we get a bit too sensitive about how people react to our decisions and the truth is that what I or anyone else thinks of your reservations does not matter at all. It only matters that you are happy with them.

Oh, and a couple weeks ago I walked into the Rolls Royce dealership wearing last seasons Manolo Blanhik's. I could see the sales people rolling their eyes, so I went to the RR dealership down the street.

I disagree with those of you who say the bus stops are not decided by hotel price. Lets be realistic here. Disney World is a business. It's not about treating everyone equally, it's about how they can upsell you to the next level. There's no shame in that.

If you don't think transportation is an issue, take a closer look at the pricing of the hotels on the monorail line.

LOL!!!!! The best one is the CM's calling the AS "the projects"...if I can't afford to go on my teacher's salary, I highly doubt they can either, even with their discount. They don't OWN the place!

As an ex-cast member, I never thought there was any kind of snobbery about the resorts. I certainly never heard the values called 'the projects'.

I used to ask guests about their resort purely as a conversation starter at the register. I really enjoyed hearing guests stories about their stay and I learnt about the resorts I never got a chance to see! The only time I HAD to ask which resort a guest was staying was when someone asked for resort delivery. We're just trying to get nice in most situations!

Like many of you have said, I think it depends more on personal preference rather than money in most situations!

When at Disney and we have been asked "Where are you staying?" I have experienced an over keel of excitement to a disappointing really thats nice! LOL! We have stayed at All Star Sports, Pop or camped. So you tend to think its snobbery or your answer disappointed them because you are not at the Grand Floridian LOL! I don't really think it is snobbery, but just harder for some to react in excitement to our value or camping! LOL! But even in a value resort or camping, after you buy the tickets, pay for food etc., it is an expensive vacation! If it is snobbery so be it! LOL!

I don't look at anyone who can afford Disney at any resort as truely poor! LOL! But... If they think I am I would appreciate free dining when I come! LOL!

When I was a child a lady (our neighbor actually)who was a little la te da, snobbed our family when my Dad politely acknowledged her and spoke to her out in town. I don't know if it was because we weren't all dressed up or what but I asked my Dad when we got home didn't that make him mad?" My Dad replied "No, I just look at people like that like they don't have any since." LOL! I just never forgot his answer and chuckle at it even today! LOL!
