Is there a kettle in studios?

The Americans I encounter outside the US don't seem to even understand the phrase. I, however, do and I DO...
I think I already tolerate quite enough simply in that Americans don't speak or spell English

- U - A letter used far more in British and Australian. It is in words like colour, favour, labour etc. I think this is why UK keyboards have 102 characters on them instead of your 101, or is it because they have a pound sign on them?
- Bathroom. This is a room with a BATH or SHOWER. I don't find baths or showers in public toilets...so they are not bathrooms. They are public toilets. Don't bother asking for a bathroom in Australia or Europe. The Italians have no idea what you mean........so WHEN IN ROME. Yet I saw countless Americans doing just that...3 minute conversations because they can't just say the word toilet. "Potty" "Bathroom" geez....
You also can not have half a bath....it is either a bathroom or a WC/toilet (if there is no bath or shower)
- Jelly is the wobbly stuff you eat. Jam is the fruit spread you put on toast.
- zip code??? what does that even mean??? a zip is something you use to close and open pencil cases and clothes. Zip lock bags as well.
It is a POSTCODE....referring to the postal code of the area you are looking to send a postcard.


But I digress. My main dissatisfaction is that I expect better from Disney. When we stayed in apartments in the US and even specifically in Orlando at other timeshares they have had kettles.

I imagine the reason the studios don't have kettles is that the one and two bedrooms only have the stove top variety. If you don't want to bring one in your bags (and I sympathize), I think your best bet if you will not have a car, is to call garden grocer and have them deliver one. They are very good with special orders! They are so inexpensive, you can just leave it behind when you leave. The mousekeeper (or the next guest) will love it and wonder how she ever managed without this marvelous contraption before!

The ZIP in zipcode stands for Zone Improvement Plan, it has nothing to do with clothing fasteners or plastic bags. So it actually is not a postcode, but yet another American improvement (if you can consider the USPS an improvement that is.)

Yeah we will have a car. The times before we could afford DVC we often thought about buying microwaves and kettles if we didn't find one where we were staying but so often we actually found them and so we never got around to it...
We even many years ago used to travel with a "travel kettle" but the old one has had it and the new ones are quite expensive.

I have thought about if you leave such an item what happens though? Do they get used or thrown out or what? It would be wonderful if mousekeeping kept it in the room but I'm just not sure they would?
We ARE bringing our own airbed which we hope to bring back but if we buy too many souvenirs and clothes and shoes then we might have to leave it.....and if so that would be a curious thing too. Do they ever think a guest left it accidently with things like that?

Re the stove top...I remember a friend describing the SSR stove top as....well I will just quote him below:
I creep out to the kitchen, empty. Bonzer. I fill the kettle and put it on the hob. By God appliances are big in the States. I take an instant dislike to the range. It's a halogen hob. When you turn it on it looks like HAL 9000. You can almost hear it....

I'm sorry for getting so cranky. I'm bogged with work (Next week couldn't come soon enough) and I have been having so many yummy hot drinks and soups made from kettle boiled water (we have an amazing range now of quality premixes - in addition to blend your own in a percolator - that use genuine ingredients) for weeks (*** it is winter) and I am so looking forward to FINALLLY staying on site and something so simple will be missing...

There is, it's called a microwave. Although, I understand where you are coming from, DW refuses to drink tea from the microwave, and she was born and raised in the US. I just don't get that!

Since you are DVC members and would like to have some of the comforts of home at WDW, you might want to consider getting an Owner's Locker to store these items between visits.

I was just going to post that suggestion myself! If there are some "must haves" that make your trip more pleasant, bring them (or buy them once) and store them in an Owner's Locker.

Count me in as another vote for Queenie getting herself an Owners Locker to stash all of her comforts of home rather than bashing the way all us poor folks in the US have learned to fend for ourselves with such gastly things as heating water in microwaves.

Another poster mentioned a "hot pot" and I HAD to laugh! I lived in an off-campus dorm way back in college and my roomate and myself lived for years with a single burner hotplate and a "hot pot" and we lived to tell about it!! We cooked everything in that darn thing!! Mac & Cheese....spaghetti.... Wasn't exactly like "home cooking" but we survived without any noticable scars or major dysfunctions.

We only stay in studios and I will just liken it to tent camping. Sometimes you just have to improvise for a few days & get by. You certainly aren't doing anything that's gonna kill ya.

Seriously, Queenie is a PERFECT example of someone who would benefit from an OL. John! Where are you? Are you reading this thread?? Sounds like we have many, many things here in the US that she considers inferior to what she has at home. Queenie - you could ship yourself a box ahead of time with the contents or go shopping for the items while in FL to save the bother. For starters, we know you would get a "proper kettle" and an airbed and probably a pump to blow up the airbed...let's see, what else? Probably a water filter / pitcher so there is "good water" to use in the kettle. Ummm..China cups. Sheets? I'm sure our sheets aren't quite right either. Queenie! You SO-O need an Owners Locker!!!!! You really should think about it!!!!!

I've been to the US 6 times and yes I know coffee is the dominant drink but this still doesn't actually explain the US style "coffee maker" in the room.
The coffee made in these machines is as foul as Instant Coffee in smell at least...so you may as well HAVE a kettle and stick the boiled water in a cup with instant coffee...same smell...same taste...

I drink PROPER coffee at home like the Italians make it....not the swill that comes out of a "coffeemaker."
In the great Southern Land MOST people drink Coffee daily (myself included) but it does not come from a foul machine like that.

If you want a home coffee maker go look up and get a Nespresso maker and the pods...at least it is drinkable.

We use boiled water for more than tea....I actually don't drink hot tea myself...hot chocolate anyone????

Although almost any coffee would be better than the Necafe crap they sell at WDW. I have visions of me taking the Monorail to Poly from BLT every morning to get Kona coffee.

Hey now! No need to get all huffy & name call here! Perhaps we are isolated, but you sort of made it sound like there was no cost too much to have properly boiled water. You also didn't appear to want to pay the extra fees the airlines charge for the extra bags so I suggested shipping as an alternative. But obviously, renting a car to go shopping at a Wal-Mart or similar home store would prove to be the cheapest solution. I'm sure their camping aisle would have your fancy airbed too.

Thus you have saved your extra baggage fees, shipping costs and the car rental cost for future trips. Everything will be waiting for you whenever you come. It is quite simple and is most certainly not pointless. It serves a valuable purpose for people who want certain things with them on vacation but don't want to pay to bring them over & over. It reduces on the amount of luggage you need to bring each time. How is that pointless? It was merely a suggestion to your dilema of how to get your kettle & airbed each time you come.

You pay for the Owners locker...a monthly fee I am assuming.
Buying one kettle each time would be cheaper. So to ME it is pointless
Fancy airbed...it cost 50bucksAUD...and we have already used it enough here to pay for it.

Target has the electric kettle that boils water, I also drink tea but I find tea made in a microwave just as disgusting as that made with the coffee maker. I bought mine in Target it was about $18.00 last year when I bought it. I do store mine in my owners locker for when I am in a studio.

Brit here. I would agree that the lack of a kettle is frustrating, I can survive on coffee, but I like to use it for hot chocolate for the kids, and it's also useful for baby's bottles etc. However, it's definitely not an American thing so it's one of those things you have to accept. And Microwaved water does not make a nice cup of tea, I don't know why but it's just not nice.

You can get an electric kettle shipped to the nearest Walmart so you know it will be waiting for you (or you could get one shipped to the hotel, if you order from a US website and have it shipped to the hotel then shipping costs will be minimal, we have done this before)
