I don't know what you mean by having a job that follows national murder stories. Even reporters will tell you that you don't just graduate with a journalism degree, and go right to covering national news issues. I know some podcasters dive into famous murder cases, and a few of them can even make a living at it, but for most, it's a passion. A few make a side hustle out of it, but only a tiny, tiny percentage actually make a living doing it. And they put in TONS of behind-the-scenes research for every hour that they broadcast.
Your child needs to find something more lucrative to keep food on the table if this is his planned goal. Even journalism these days has way more qualifies people than there are jobs (look at how newspapers are dying, for example, and network news is a shell of what it used to be).
