Is there a frequently asked ? for FW

We just bought a pop up camper and we would love to camp at Disney during our spring break next year. I know some of the other resorts have frequently asked questions websites, I was thinking if I could read through that for FW it would answer most of my questions!

The cheap ones with very few extra's start at $5,000. We purchased a new Starcraft 2406 loaded for $8,500. The MSRP was $11,000. Some of the big ones cost over $13,000.

We are going in November with ours.

As has been stated $5,000 to over $10,000 is a reasonable range. My FFT Niagara listed at close to $17,000 and we picked it up for less than $13,000. Don't let those numbers scare you, ours is one of the largest pop ups out there. For more information check out the pop up specific message boards. You can pay a little or you can pay a lot. But first you have to figure out how much camper you really need. I would start by finding out how much you car/truck/van will tow--hint: do not ask a camper dealer, they will tel you anything to get you to buy a camper. Call the manufacturer of your vehicle to get the straight poop.

THEN you can start looking at campers. We had some special needs for ours. Since we have big kids and they are boy/girl/boy, we needed a specific sleeping configuration so as to make enough room. We also opted not to get a potty--my kids would die if they heard (or saw!)one of us "doin' our bidness." So we use the comfort stations. No potty means we have more storage & living space. Ours is a smallish Viking, with a 10' box. It has heat and A/C. We have slept 6 in there comfortably. We bought it used for $4500 cash,in nearly brand-new condition.

We love our pop-up, but we also know it's not for everyone. You have to like sleeping under canvas. You have to be okay with less privacy. It's still largely an outdoor experience, unlike owning a travel trailer or a big rig. But being tent campers at heart(with middle aged backs and behinds ) we wouldn't have it any other way.

Do you get wet under the canvas like you do in tents? We would also be using it instead of tent camping for cub scouts.

I had a pupup for years loved it no you do not get wet like a tent and the other good thing is when it rains 8-10 inchs like at FW in the summer your bed is about 3-4 feet in the air so your bed don't flood.

We dont usually get wet. We did have one real bad storm that totally drenched us and the only things that got wet were the pillows leaning up against the canvas-they wicked the dampness away. so we learned not to let our pillows lean against the soft sides. It's a great feeling to sit high & dry in your cozy pop-up and listen to the rain while you play "Clue" with the kids.

You put it perfectly. Our family enjoyed tent camping until middle-age hit me, and I couldn't bear sleeping on the ground because it hurt! I never really got used to sleeping on an air mattress for some reason, so we started talking about getting a pop-up. Some friends of ours were selling their popup because it was broken (wouldn't crank up). So...we bought it from and got it fixed all for about $1000. It's not brand new, but we love it. It has the AC that is so wonderful for Florida camping, it has an awning, it has a double and a queen mattress, and the cabinets, dining area, etc... Like you, we didn't want a bathroom in ours, so we have a little extra storage space, and find the comfort stations to be fine for our family.

Just had to tell you that I LOVED your website. Great info on camping at WDW....something I am desperately trying to get DH to do next year. We just bought a teeny starcraft 1701...tiny, but perfect for us and the dogs (both pound puppies!). He just doesn't want to drive the 2000 miles to Florida from Colorado. But your site is helping my cause, indeed!

On the cost of tent trailers, the least expensive new one we found was ours...$4785. It has a fridge and furnace...my two must haves. We got a pretty good deal as it was an '04 that was excess inventory that sat, surprising in Colorado. I was shocked at the price of used tent trailers though! We definately made a good choice to buy new.

We bought a 1999 Coleman Bayside, it has a king mattress on both sides and a glide out for the dining area. We have heat and air as well! We bought ours from a dealer for about $6,500.

We are taking it out this weekend! I can't wait!

Congratulations to you and your family! We've only had our travel trailer for about 6 weeks now and have been camping twice. We actually picked it up on a Thursday morning and left that evening to go to Fort Wilderness! Of course, I already had ressies booked with my MIL's pop-up. It's a great feeling to have your own!
