DH and I love love love MGM and would love the chance to open the park like they do at MK.
Does anyone know if they have families that open MGM?

Thanks!
Sandy Bo Bandy :)

Yes, they do pick a family each morning for the opening ceremony of the park (not quite as much fanfare as the MK opening, but still neat!).

We're were picked for the family to open Epcot back in 2001. :cool1:

That's really a TWO-PART question.

A. Yes, they do choose families (sometimes up to 4, or so families at a time).

B. There is NO ceremony even CLOSE to "way they do at MK" in MGM.

The families at MGM stand near the gates and "count down" and maybe wave a "wand". There is not a recorded PROGRAM with characters and such.

It can be fun to be chosen at MGM, but its not a big "production" like at MK.

I saw a family picked for MGM last year - little boy got to snap the movie board to start the "show". No musical number like MK or Epcot.

Fan fare was the best for MK - big production and picked group gets to throw out pixie dust.
Epcot was next biggest fanfare with the characters coming out on the bus to greet everyone.

Love the intros - also like the smaller crowds at the opening of the park. Hope that we get picked this year...

Any idea how you get picked ???? please!!

Be there early.
What's "early"?

Think about what YOU would consider "early", then be there 30 minutes before THAT.
(I'm only HALF-joking.. you need to be there before MOST other guest arrive).

Then everyone in the family should be happy, laughing, smiling and JOKING with the CM's who are at the gates (they pick the families).

Will that do it?
COULD be.
Its just a matter of the CM's choice.

MK has a MAJOR PRODUCTION "rope drop" featuring an arrival of the steam train, Mickey and many of the characters, a full song and dance number by a large troupe of performers, pixie dust, streamers, and a count-down to the fun.

DAK has Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto, arriving atop a special safari BUS, with a complete recorded program that ends with a surprise "guest explorer/guide" over near the Tree of Life.

I edited my response. Meant to say MK and Epcot had the two best we saw (haven't been to AK yet - can't wait for this year). Just got through with a 2 day exam so my mind is mush...

Clicking a clap-board slate and tossing pixie dust is fun (and I like it) but it is not even close to the "fanfare' at DAK and MK.
