Is there a better time to book a flight . . .late at night, early morning?

We are flying Song out of BDL April 17, 2005 . . .and returning April 24th.

I am almost in sticker shock when I see how much flights are during school vacation times . . .I thought paying $225 rt was bad during April vacation 2000 . . .wow I was spoiled!

I'd like to jump first thing on the 330 day mark . . .I'll stay up till midnight if it means I'll get a good price . . .

Anyone know?

I don't think staying up til midnight will cut it. We just went through this with Song for Feb vacation of 2005. It seems that Song rolls into their next day's flights at 3am (California time for midnight). I was checking about a week prior to our departure dates, and by 1:30 am the new flights were not up, but when DH got up for work at 3:15, the new flights were up. SO...you may have to get up in the middle of the night.

We were able to score R/T flights BOS to RSW for around $230 each. Which for Feb vacation, I thought was GREAT.

Good Luck. I am a complete planning geek, and had a spreadsheet all built telling me what days I could book our outbound flight, and what day we could book our return flight. (Did 2 one-way reservations, did not wait for the return date to come available and book the R/T together)

Hope this helps a bit. If you have any more questions, fire away.

sheesh, I got long winded, sorry folks!!!

Did you find it better to book your flights seperately? I was also thinking about doing that, but never did that before.

Just keep in mind that since more people are traveling now the airlines don't have to discount to fill the planes. I was just reading an article this morning about the days of cheap airfare are not long. You should expect to pay more than in the past for tickets. So if you find a good price jump on it, don't expect to see great discounts.

Also by purchasing one way tickets you are subject to extra screening. You will need to allow extra time for the more through security screening.

I bought the tickets separately, because I wanted to make sure we could get the best price for our flights. If I had waited til we could buy the round trip, we would have been paying close to $330 for a ONE WAY ticket. Since Song prices one way, it was not a problem to do it.

Let me know if you have any more questions

I've been looking every day for our November trip. It's a busy week (teacher's convention) so airfare is pretty high for that week. I paid $211.00 round trip last year in June and I thought that was high. This is worse.

I kept getting quotes of $277.00 with a connecting flight!!!! Or $230.00 out of NY (don't want to travel into NY). Then last Sunday morning, I checked again and up pops Song out of Newark, NJ for $242.00 roundtrip - no stops - with the times I wanted. Bingo - done. It's more than I wanted to pay - but with the price of gas now, I took it and I'm done! That was through expedia.

Keep checking and good luck.

You just have to keep watching. Try going to Expedia or Travelocity and setting up some farewatchers and they will automatically email you when price drops (in case you happen to miss it that day.

Also, download "Sidestep" to check daily for airfares. Just go to Sidestep.com and it will instruct you. (this site does not include Southwest..just an FYI)

Bestfares.com: go to left side of screen "quickfare finder" and check there. Be sure and watch how far out the fare is good for on the screen. Its a great way to track airfares!

I just got RT from Indy to MCO nonstop last week for $118.00 per person....now THAT'S a bargain :)
