Is there a big advantage from changing dates from 8/12 to 8/19

We thought we couldn't go the week from 8/19 thru 8/23 so we made the dates 8/12 thru 8/16. Now, the later date has opened up for us and I could change my reservations.

I'm sure the rates will be a bit lower, and I'm assuming that the crowds will be less, but at the same time the parks close two hours earlier. Since we are staying on site, will the smaller crowds make that much of a difference for us? And if we go the later dates, we would get home late on Saturday evening and the kids would have to start school that following Monday. They kind of prefer to have a week to rest up before school. I don't know what to do---what would you do??? :confused3

Between the 2 hour later closing and this: I would keep the earlier dates. I say this because you are staying on-site. I would guess you will also have a fireworks show for the earlier dates.

HydroAction Ski Show
June 15 – August 18

Thrills and excitement take to the water as world-class athletes perform aquatic acrobatics on high-speed boats, jet-skis, and wakeboards on the Islands of Adventure lagoon.

Catch the return of the Universal 360–A Cinesphere SpectacularSM nighttime show at Universal Studios®. It’s the most explosive, jaw-dropping cinematic adventure you’ve ever seen!

I'd keep your current plans as is...Crowd level should be a non-issue since you are staying on site. It will also be less frantic getting the kids geared up for back to school....Have fun.

Thanks for the tips, I didn't know either of these would be going on while we were there! :thumbsup2 We have decided to keep our original dates, with the extra things going on and the park staying open until 10pm, I think we will be happier. Plus, as others have stated, it will be easier on the kids with a week to recoup from vacation.

By the way, where is the best place to be to view the Cinesphere Spectacular?

You're welcome!
We like to grab a bench behind Quints in Amity to watch the show.

Right, with FOTL the extra crowds won't matter. From 11am to 4pm the walk ways are packed, plus it very hot out. It's best to hang out at the hotel taking a nap or visiting the pool.
