We need to start some sort of support group here. Does anyone else find themselves doubling or tripling their budget? I keep seeing my budget going up, up and up. I started with a $5,000 vow renewal and now we're probably going to double that and I keep finding new things that I simply must have every day! My current lust is DVC, I reallllllly want to join and we could use the points for our VR stay. So how do you know when and where to draw the line and stay within your budget? Help?!

Completely understand where you are coming from. Prior to join the Disboards, I didnt know anything about dessert parties but once I started reading about them in all the planning journals I started to really want one. But I stepped back and thought about what was important to me and really what we could afford. Instead of a dessert party we were able to spend the rest of our honeymoon without worrying about every little expenditure like going over to Harry Potter World or spending a day at the waterpark. Plus I can look forward to my next trip to Disney a little sooner having not spent that money. In retrospect, I didn't miss not having a dessert party at all. In fact, we were probably too tired to have enjoyed it and really enjoyed having a quiet dinner by ourselves instead.

lol, if there is... can you sign me up too!! we are actually taking our wedding earnings and putting it towards dvc. we didn't want to get into anything that deep before our wedding and take away from our already rapidly expanding budget. i want to buy into GF DVC when it's built and try to find BLT and BC points on resale :)

UMMM there should be a 12 step program! I started a spreadsheet a while back and have slowly been adding things to it as I think about them and determine that I MUST HAVE THEM and before I knew it I was 20k over budget!! :scared1: Needless to say I turned into a major slasher...but I really need a support group to keep me in check! I will say I have been good lately but only because Im now broke! :rotfl:

Lets start this the right way:

Hi. My name is Sarah and I am a wedding addict. Im way overbudget and have a serious problem..my parents call it "champagne taste on a beer budget" Im glad you all are here to help me through this rough time..LMAO! :rotfl2:

Whos next?

I need it too! The perils of a long engagement...more time to save but your budget swells along with it! I just found videographers I have to have and my budget is going up once again to accommodate them! It doesn't help when vendors keep increasing their prices! I want to start signing contracts ASAP so I can start to lock in prices before they rise again.

Try having the UK as your starting point! We are coming over for 3 weeks (well it would be rude not to) and that is costing in the region of $12,500 then add on the base cost of the Escape package $4750 and all of this is before I upgrade the cake, add some floral have a meal at Yachtmans.....

Good luck with that, we didn't even get enough money back to pay for the suite we booked for our welcome party. Let alone dvc! Not to be a downer, we just expected something more than we got. I hope your guests are more generous than our family!

When we planned our wedding it was $2 to £1, by the time it came to book the crash had happened so it was now $1.50 to £1, our wedding had just gone up by 25%, in the end we overspent by 50%.

Wow! OK, I'll stop complaining now. We live in FL already so no airfaire for us. :duck:

There is a 1 step solution to this problem: don't have a Disney wedding!!!
:rotfl:
Technically we aren't having a Disney wedding, we're going with Swan/Dolphin to keep costs down. I'd love a DFTW but don't want to go into debt for it (mainly because we have kids and are kids are expensive!). We started with a non-Disney venue but when I realized that the swan would only be a little more we switched. We're cash-flowing this baby though, and that is why I'm trying to keep costs at bay.

Crowd: Hi Sarah!

I'll go next...

Hi. I'm Jill. I'm a budget increaser. It all started with what was supposed to be a $5,000 vow renewal...then we added more guests, rented out another private room, increased our length of stay and here we are closer to the $10,000 mark. I promised my H I wouldn't go over $8,000 :rolleyes1 but the dessert parties look like so much fun. Please, someone confiscate my debit card! I blame all of you for sharing your fabulous trip reports and reviews and pictures. :sad2: :rotfl:
