Is the Yachtsman Steakhouse really that good?

Be careful reading all the hype here on the DIS so that your expectations stay in line;) We ate at Yachtsman last week as our final dinner and I was kinda let down. I had eaten here years ago, and I remembered it being much smaller and quieter, perhaps memory failed me on that one. I had also told my wife several times during the trip how they bring out these awesome sliced pods of garlic and you can scoop the cloves right out for your bread. Needless to say it was a let down when the garlic came out in a tin cup and looked like it came off the topping bar at Starlight Cafe. Small thing I know, but it was one of the touches I remembered that made Yachtsman seem special.

Now dont get me wrong, it was a very good meal and I'm sure we will go back. It just didnt live up to the what I thought was portrayed here on the DIS and in my memory. Perhaps I was expecting too much, but I just walked away feeling like it wasnt much better than my local Outback.

Oh no! That was my absolute favorite part of our meal there! I could have just eaten the bread with the garlic cloves and skipped the steak. I hate that they've changed it :(

OUr experierence 2 years ago was horrible. DH's birthday and he is a steak lover. DH, DS and my steaks were so fatty. All of us ordered different cuts so it wasn't any help when I offered DH mine. 6pm it was pretty empty 2 other tables we dined there in April.

I felt terrible that DH's birthday dinner was such a flop! The server was a lovely man and sadly informed us all the meat looked that way. My DH felt as if we could receive the same cuts from sizzler and he doesn't dine there either. Anytime I have made ressies and asked what else is available I always here things like everywhere else is booked but Yachtsman Steak is available, I don't wonder why!

Easily the best restaraunt on property. A must do each trip for us and we have never had anything close to a bad experience there.

We have always had great service there over the years. Our food has always come out as ordered. We have celebrated many birthday's and anniversaries there. It's a must for us each trip and we visit WDW about 4-6 trips a year.

Sorry to hear some have had bad experiences - I hope you have asked to speak to a Manager or Chef since they can't fix what they aren't told about.

Wow.... I'm suprised to see so many good reviews!

Hmmmm we must have went on an off night, maybe our adr's were just to late in the evening or maybe there were just to many of us but only one of us out of 10 got a decent meal there...
Even my brother who ordered the most expensive meal there (Wagyu) was disappointed. Our server was very slow (it took 20 minutes just to get our drink order and then another 15 to get them after we ordered them. We also ordered a bottle of wine and didnt get the chiller until the meal was nearly over. The food took quite a long while to come out and most of it was brought out cold. My youngest daughter had plastic in her pasta and my sister-n-law had to send back her food to be reheated because it was so cold she couldnt stomach it.
Even though I have read all of your wonderful post about it, we will never venture to eat there again!

We've had many good meals there including our wedding reception.
Mom and I ate there earlier this month and had a great meal with a very good server. I was disappointed that they no longer have the ribeye on the menu.

Our (multiple) experience at YSH has been as good as Kevin's report. We've always enjoyed great service, food and wine there.

We've got a favorite server there, Oscar, who we always enjoy talking with. Trouble is, another of our favored servers recently moved from AP (where she was called Pok) to YSH (where she is known as Yun) so now we are torn on who to ask for when we go there for dinner.

As Keven said, the pull apart onion rolls are to die for.

Oscar is our favorite server as well. At home our favorite steakhouse is Gibson's, and our server there is Alberto....I told Oscar that he is my "Disney Alberto". :goodvibes

We ate at the Yachtsmen steakhouse in November, and out of 3 adults none of us enjoyed our meal. Our steaks were not cooked properly, and my husbands was full of gristle. Probably it was an off night, but we won't go back for awhile.

How were the steaks after you sent them back to have them cooked properly?

By FAR the best meal of our trip!!! We celebrated our DS's 16th b-day and he is a big steak lover! He said it was the best ever--beating Le Cellier hands down! Our server was excellent, attending to our every need.

We plan on having dinner there for our 17th anniversary on July 5th. Can't wait...definitely worth the 2 credits!

I did have one issue with the wait staff one time out of 6+ visits at the Yachtsman. It happened at the beginning of the meal. We were seated on time, 4 adults and one child 4 years old, it took 15 minutes for anyone to attempt to take a drink order so when a very nice lady asked we gave her the order and I asked for the manager. When he arrived I explained the situation and asked if this is what to expect for the rest of our visit. He assured me that we should have no delays and if anything was not to our liking to ask for him again.
Well, after that we had the most attentive (not irritating) servers on the planet and the food was perfect. My father-in-law ordered his steak “well done” and it was shoe leather scorched just the way he likes it. Each meal was as I said; perfect.
If you ever see or experience a problem at any venue at Disney (and I have let me tell ya’); tell them, they can only improve the service for everyone if they know of the problem. Don’t let the tip tell them, you should do it. Everyone I have ever called on the carpet about a problem wasn’t aware of the issue and was (at least appeared to be) very interested in knowing of the problem and fixed it right away.
I am a big man with a big voice; my wife reminds me that I have to humble myself a bit because I can sound condescending at times. I take a deep breath and let them know that we are not sure why we are not receiving what we feel is our money’s worth. There was one time at Cape May Café that I actually offered to help because the manager said two of the wait staff had been hurt in a VERY bad auto accident on the way in to work and she is still waiting on backup staff to arrive. I’ve waited tables in my past lives and insisted on helping out. The patrons were impressed and gave the three (there was supposed to be 5) staff members extra on the tips that night. We had a great party and everyone felt better about their meal. Once they [the customers] knew the situation they were very receptive. I still have the apron and don it with pride often.
You are paying for the service. If you don’t receive good service they need to know, and they need to know you are not going to pay for bad service.

I know… :mic: I’m preaching to the chair but I felt it needed to be said.

We love the food but my one complaint is that Yachtsmen always seems to be running late, no matter when your ADR is for. In early December, they were running 1/2 hour late but it was more like 40 minutes after our ADR before we were seated. We see a lot of the lounge next door while waiting for our table.

We ate here a couple of weeks ago and thought it was good, but much preferred our meals at Narcoosees and Cali Grille. I would rather go back to Le Cellier for 1 credit than spend 2 here. We had a wonderful meal here several years ago and it was a little bit of a let down.

Ditto to what PP said about running late. We were seated late and it was a LONG meal (but our server did everything possible to keep it moving since he knew we were tryig to make it back to EPCOT for Illuminations at 9:30. Our ADR was for 7:30pm and we practically ran from the YC to the International Gateway to make it in by 9:25pm.)

By any chance is Oscar an older Asian gentleman? FOr the life of me I cannot rememberour server's name, just that he was wonderful. :)

Oscar isn't Asian, he's Latin American and has a heavy accent. Sometimes that makes him hard to understand, but he apparently has no problem understanding us.

We went to the Yachtsman to celebrate my girlfriends birthday, it was by far the best meal I've had at Disney, and I'm struggling to remember a better meal we've had on our visits to Orlando full stop. The staff were helpful with their recommendations, the steaks were absolutely perfect and we were more than happy with the relaxed pace of the evening. The only downside was that we made the usual error of not having any room for any desserts!

We enjoyed our evening at the Yachtsman so much that it is now the 'must do' on our return, and the chilled out ambience of the Yacht Club in general has meant that we are booking here for our next holiday! I couldn't recommend the Yachtsman any higher.

I think I know who you're talking about b/c he waited on us. He was pretty nice.

I LOVE YSH. We make it a point to eat there every trip. The food is awesome, esp the scallop appetizer.

I shared a not so favorable opinion earlier in this thread, but I do agree with you here, the scallops were great!

I'll also have to remember to ask for Oscar, as part of our issue was the friendlieness of our server, or shall I say the distinct lack thereof....

If Oscar isn't working that night, ask for Yun. She used to be our favorite server at Artist Point before she moved to YSH. She's also a very personable server and she provides great service.

BTW, Deej696 there appears to be something out of sequence in the monorail stops in your sig.
